RTX 50 Series Prices Soar: RTX 5090 Approaches $3000 Even Months After Launch

Just like AMD’s RX 9070 series, NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series hasn’t seen significant price drops since its debut and remains steeply priced across many regions. The high-end models are still being sold at price points much higher than expected.

The GeForce RTX 50 series, which launched before AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup, was anticipated to stabilize in the market over time. However, months later, the gap between the initial launch prices and the suggested retail prices remains largely unchanged.

Price tracking from Week 13 to Week 17 shows only minor decreases across all RTX 50 series models. Unfortunately, they continue to sell for significantly more than NVIDIA’s original price announcements. For example, the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 struggles to dip below €3000 in some European areas, equating to around $3383 including VAT, and approximately $2819 excluding VAT. This is still a hefty 41% above the MSRP of $1999, although slightly lower than earlier weeks.

There is a glimmer of hope with the “Best Price” showing a decrease; the RTX 5090 can now be found for as low as €2,229, matching its original European launch price. Still, snagging one at this rate is often challenging due to market instability.

The RTX 5080, while seeing a €40 drop, still sits at a median price of €1,389, which is 24% higher than the recommended retail price of €1,189 in the EU. This is a bit more aligned with expectations compared to the RTX 5090. As for the RTX 5070 Ti, it remains overpriced with a median price of €950, despite a €55 reduction from earlier pricing. The RTX 5070 continues to sell €35 above its launch price, with only a modest 5% dip in median pricing.

Though specific data for North America isn’t available, the situation seems similarly grim. The RTX 5090 hovers around $3000 or more, with stock often depleted at major retailers like Amazon and Newegg. The RTX 5080 also endures high pricing, starting at $1389 and reaching beyond $1600 for premium editions. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are similarly overpriced, going for $900+ and $600+ respectively.

Despite being more than three months post-launch for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, and over two months for the RTX 5070 Ti, significant price shifts remain elusive.
