RPCS3 Fixes Major Gran Turismo 6 Visual Bug, Bringing PS3 Racing Classic Closer to Playable Status on PC
The RPCS3 team has delivered another important improvement for PlayStation 3 emulation, this time targeting Gran Turismo 6, one of the most well-known racing exclusives from Sony’s PS3 era.
A long-standing graphical issue affecting the rear-view mirror display inside vehicles has now been fixed by RPCS3 developer kd-11. The bug was present in earlier builds of Gran Turismo 6, but according to the latest update from the emulator team, game versions up to 1.05 no longer suffer from the broken mirror output.
For fans of PlayStation 3 emulation, this is a meaningful step forward. Gran Turismo 6 remains one of the biggest racing games on the platform, and any improvement to its accuracy and visual presentation makes the PC emulation experience feel closer to the original console version.
Gran Turismo 6 originally launched in December 2013 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game earned strong reviews for its huge car list, deep driving mechanics, and massive amount of racing content. However, its timing was not ideal. The PlayStation 4 had already launched just one month earlier, which limited the game’s commercial impact despite its strong reputation among racing fans.
While this RPCS3 fix is good news, Gran Turismo 6 is still not officially considered fully “Playable” in the emulator’s compatibility list. The game remains in the “Ingame” category due to other remaining issues, including graphical problems and a boot-related issue.
The RPCS3 team also advises users not to update Gran Turismo 6 beyond version 1.05. Later versions reportedly suffer from severe visual problems and poor frame rates, making them less suitable for emulation at this stage.
Performance is another important factor. Even with the rear-view mirror bug fixed, Gran Turismo 6 can still run poorly depending on your PC hardware. RPCS3 is heavily dependent on CPU power, and demanding PS3 games often require a strong modern processor to run smoothly.
Users with high-end CPUs, such as modern Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 chips, are more likely to see better results than those using older or weaker processors. PlayStation 3 emulation is complex because of the console’s unique Cell processor architecture, so GPU power alone is not enough to guarantee smooth gameplay.
For anyone hoping to play Gran Turismo 6 or other PS3 games on PC through RPCS3, the main takeaway is simple: a powerful CPU matters. A modern gaming setup can make a major difference in frame rate, stability, and overall emulation quality.
This latest fix does not make Gran Turismo 6 perfect on PC, but it is another sign of steady progress. With each update, RPCS3 continues to improve compatibility for major PlayStation 3 titles, giving classic console games a better chance of being preserved and enjoyed on modern hardware.
