Rivian R2 SUV Launches June 9 With Deliveries, Order Invites, and Demo Drives
The Rivian R2 SUV is finally nearing its official arrival, and June 9 is the date to watch. Rivian has confirmed that its highly anticipated electric SUV will officially launch that day, marking a major step for the brand as it brings a smaller, more accessible adventure-focused EV to customers.
At launch, the Rivian R2 will be available in the United States only. The rollout will begin with order invitations, the first customer deliveries, and demo drives across all Rivian Spaces. For reservation holders and EV shoppers waiting for a more compact Rivian SUV, this is the biggest update yet.
Rivian announced the launch through its social channels, confirming that “June 9 is the big day” for the R2. The company also shared more details about how order invitations and deliveries will work, giving reservation holders a clearer idea of what to expect once the launch begins.
Order invitations will not be sent to everyone at once. Instead, Rivian plans to release them in batches. Customers located near Rivian Service and Demo Centers are expected to receive invitations earlier, as the company appears to be prioritizing areas where vehicle support and test drive access are already available.
Current Rivian owners will also benefit from accelerated delivery timing. However, Rivian says this will be balanced with deliveries to new customers, so non-owners will still have a fair chance to receive their vehicles without excessive delays.
Demo drives will open at all Rivian Spaces, giving interested buyers the opportunity to experience the R2 in person. While demo drives will be available to the public, reservation holders who have already received an invitation to order will receive priority.
The first version to arrive will be the Rivian R2 Performance edition. This model starts at $57,990 and will lead the launch lineup. It is expected to appeal to buyers who want the quickest and most capable version of the compact electric SUV from day one.
Rivian will expand the lineup later with more affordable trims. The Premium edition is scheduled to arrive later in 2026 with a starting price of $53,990. The Standard edition will be the most affordable version, starting at $48,490, but it is not expected to arrive until later, likely closer to the end of 2026 or beyond.
Although buyers can configure the Premium and Standard versions now, those trims will not be available for immediate delivery at launch. Customers hoping to get behind the wheel as soon as possible will need to focus on the Performance model.
Once a customer configures a Rivian R2 and completes the order process, the expected delivery window is estimated at 2 to 6 weeks. Actual timing will likely depend on location, configuration, production availability, and how quickly Rivian moves through its invitation batches.
Rivian is also offering several charging accessories for the R2. Available options include an $800 wall charger, a $400 portable charger, a $50 J1772 AC adapter, and a $200 CCS1 DC adapter. These accessories should help owners prepare for both home charging and public charging situations.
The R2 is an important model for Rivian because it targets a broader audience than the larger R1S SUV and R1T pickup. With a lower starting price and a more compact footprint, the R2 could become one of the brand’s most important electric vehicles, especially among buyers looking for an adventure-ready EV that is easier to live with every day.
The June 9 launch also gives Rivian a chance to strengthen its position in the growing electric SUV market. Demand for smaller electric crossovers and SUVs remains strong, and the R2’s combination of Rivian styling, utility, and off-road-inspired capability could make it a compelling option for EV shoppers.
For now, reservation holders should keep an eye out for order invitations as the launch date approaches. Those near Rivian Service and Demo Centers may be among the first to move forward, while others should receive invitations as the rollout expands.
With customer deliveries, demo drives, and order invitations all beginning on June 9, the Rivian R2 is about to move from long-awaited concept to real-world electric SUV. For many Rivian fans, that makes June 9 one of the most important dates of the year.
