Retroid Pocket Nova Pre-Orders Open With Free Accessories, Pricing, Colors, and Hands-On Gameplay Revealed

Retroid has officially shared the pre-order details for the Retroid Pocket Nova, its new Android-powered handheld gaming device built around a compact 4:3 display. After recently revealing the handheld’s specifications and pricing, the company has now confirmed when buyers can reserve one, along with a few launch bonuses and a small discount for select returning customers.

Pre-orders for the Retroid Pocket Nova begin on June 26 at 9 PM EST. In China, pre-orders open on June 27 at 9 AM BJT. Retroid has not yet confirmed when the handheld will begin shipping, but the pre-order campaign includes a couple of incentives that may make early reservations more appealing.

Everyone who pre-orders the Retroid Pocket Nova will receive two free accessories: a tempered glass screen protector and an ergonomic back shell. These extras should help protect the device and improve comfort during longer gaming sessions, making the launch bundle more attractive for handheld gaming fans.

Retroid is also offering a small discount to customers who previously purchased the Retroid Pocket Mini V1 directly from the official GoRetroid store. Eligible buyers can save $3 on the Pocket Nova by using the coupon code V1SAVE3 at checkout. However, the discount only applies if the Pocket Mini V1 appears in the buyer’s Shopify order history. Customers who bought the Pocket Mini V1 from other retailers or third-party stores will not qualify for this offer.

The Retroid Pocket Nova will be available in two hardware configurations and seven color options. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, starting at $229 for the Black, 16 Bit, and GC color variants. Buyers who prefer the translucent color options with the same 8GB RAM and 128GB storage setup will pay $234.

For users who want more memory, Retroid is also offering a 12GB RAM and 128GB storage version. This model costs $269 in Black, 16 Bit, and GC colors, while the translucent variants are priced at $274.

Alongside the pre-order announcement, Retroid released a hands-on video showing the Pocket Nova in action. The unit shown is an engineering prototype, but it gives a useful look at how the handheld performs with several games. Demonstrated titles include God of War, The King of Fighters XI, Contra, Ultimate Ninja Storm, Metal Slug, and more.

The gameplay footage highlights the Pocket Nova’s potential as a compact Android gaming handheld aimed at retro gaming, emulation, and portable play. Its 4:3 display makes it especially appealing for classic console and arcade-style games, where that aspect ratio can provide a more authentic experience compared to wider screens.

Another notable feature shown in the video is compatibility with the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on accessory. This optional accessory adds a second display above the handheld, creating a setup that can be useful for certain games and multitasking features. In the demonstration, games such as Shovel Knight and Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War are shown using the add-on, with the main gameplay appearing on the secondary screen while the Pocket Nova’s built-in display shows additional information.

With multiple configurations, several color choices, free launch accessories, and support for a dual-screen setup, the Retroid Pocket Nova is shaping up to be an interesting option for handheld gaming enthusiasts. Its starting price of $229 places it in a competitive range for Android-based gaming devices, while the 4:3 screen format and accessory support help it stand out from many other portable gaming handhelds.

For buyers interested in a pocket-friendly Android handheld focused on retro gaming and emulation, the Retroid Pocket Nova pre-order launch could be worth watching closely.
