Apple's iMac G3 is made entirely of Lego

Retro LEGO iMac G3 Steals the Spotlight, Now Needs Votes to Become Official

A fan-made LEGO tribute to the iconic iMac G3 is turning heads—and it’s just a few votes away from the next step toward reality.

Nearly three decades after the iMac G3 debuted with its translucent plastic shell and playful design, creator “terauma” has reimagined the classic all-in-one as a 700-piece LEGO set. The build includes a matching keyboard and the notorious “hockey puck” mouse, capturing the charm and personality of the 1998 original while keeping the footprint small enough for a modern desk.

What makes this concept stand out is the attention to detail. There’s even a miniature cathode ray tube inside, a nod to the tech that defined the era and a sign of the builder’s passion for authenticity. From the silhouette to the accessories, it’s designed to look strikingly close to Apple’s late-’90s desktop—just without the need to clear half your workspace.

As of now, the project has earned 4,663 votes from fans. It needs 5,000 in total to move closer to becoming an official set, so support from retro-computing enthusiasts, LEGO builders, and vintage tech fans could make all the difference.

There is one major caveat: bringing a product like this to shelves would require a licensing agreement. LEGO would need approval from Apple before moving ahead, since the iMac G3’s design is protected and can’t be replicated commercially without the proper permissions. In other words, fan support can get it noticed, but a green light from Apple is essential.

If you love retro design, classic Macs, or just clever builds, keep an eye on this project—and consider casting a vote to help it cross the threshold.
