Resident Evil Requiem Sets a Franchise Record, Surging to Become the Fastest-Selling Entry on Steam and PlayStation

Capcom is enjoying a huge win with Resident Evil Requiem, and the early numbers show just how big this launch has been. Since its February 27 release, the new entry has landed with strong critical buzz and an explosive start on Steam, quickly setting itself apart from recent installments in the long-running survival horror series.

One of the clearest signs of Resident Evil Requiem’s momentum is its Steam performance. Tracking data shows the game hit an all-time peak of 344,214 concurrent players, reaching that milestone within its first stretch on the platform. For comparison, Resident Evil Village topped out at 106,631 peak concurrent players on Steam, highlighting just how much bigger Requiem’s PC debut has been.

Sales have followed the same upward trajectory. Capcom confirmed on March 5 that Resident Evil Requiem shipped 5 million units in only five days after launch. That makes it the fastest-selling Resident Evil title to date, an impressive achievement for a franchise that has delivered multiple blockbuster releases over the years.

While Capcom did not break down sales by platform, early third-party estimates suggest the game is performing strongly across console and PC. Those estimates also indicate that Nintendo Switch 2 and physical game sales together represent roughly 0.8 to 1 million copies. On top of that, daily engagement appears massive, with reports estimating that more than 2.2 million players are logging in each day across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and Steam.

Beyond its commercial success, Resident Evil Requiem is also being talked about for its visuals. The game is widely viewed as a technical showcase, delivering the kind of high-end presentation that pushes modern hardware. That emphasis on cutting-edge graphics also explains its platform availability: Resident Evil Requiem is launching only on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Older systems like Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the original Nintendo Switch are not supported.

PC players should also pay close attention to the recommended system requirements if they want the best experience, because this is not a lightweight release. Resident Evil Requiem is built to take advantage of modern GPUs and CPUs, and players using gaming laptops or older desktops may need to adjust settings to maintain smooth performance.

With record-setting early sales, standout Steam player counts, and a reputation as one of the best-looking modern games, Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be one of Capcom’s biggest releases in years—and a new benchmark for the franchise’s popularity in 2026.
