Report Claims Horizon Hunters Collection May Push Back Horizon 3 as Sony Shifts Focus to a Multiplayer PS5 Title

PlayStation fans expecting Horizon 3 to land by 2027 are getting nervous after a fresh insider rumor suggests the next big single-player chapter may be much farther away than many hoped. The concern isn’t that Guerrilla Games has abandoned the mainline series. It’s that the studio may be putting the bulk of its talent and time into a newly revealed online-focused project, Horizon Hunters Gathering, potentially pushing Horizon 3 deeper into the future.

The chatter picked up after a well-known industry insider responded to questions about what Guerrilla is working on right now. According to the claim, most of the studio is involved with Horizon Hunters Gathering. That detail matters because many players assumed the live-service game was being built by a smaller internal group while the core team tackled a traditional offline sequel. If the majority of Guerrilla is actually committed to the multiplayer title, it becomes easier to understand why a full-scale narrative follow-up could take longer to arrive.

Guerrilla has previously indicated that Horizon 3 is in development, but the company has not provided any release window. Looking at the franchise timeline, Horizon Zero Dawn arrived in 2017 and Horizon Forbidden West followed in 2022, launching across PS4 and PS5. Between those two main entries, the series expanded through additional projects and spin-offs, which kept the world of Horizon active in the public eye. Even so, many fans believed a new single-player game could realistically appear as early as 2027—until this latest rumor cast doubt on that target.

Now, some players are worried Horizon 3 may not be ready until after the next generation of PlayStation hardware arrives. The broader frustration centers on Sony’s heavy investment in live-service and multiplayer games, especially at a time when the publisher has also cancelled multiple online projects. While some online releases can become long-running hits and deliver steady revenue for years, the space is fiercely competitive, and many live-service titles struggle to удерж a player base after launch.

That’s why this situation has sparked debate within the PlayStation community. On one hand, Horizon is already a proven open-world action RPG series with a large fanbase, and a big story-driven sequel would seem like a safer, more straightforward win. On the other hand, Horizon Hunters Gathering could offer Sony something it continues to chase: an ongoing game with regular engagement, updates, and recurring income long after release.

Adding to the confusion, Sony’s strategy has looked mixed in recent years. The company has pulled back on some live-service experiments, yet it’s still clearly exploring online-first releases. There’s also the reality that single-player exclusives and timed exclusives continue to perform strongly, reinforcing the argument that there’s still massive demand for premium offline adventures.

For now, none of this is official. But if Guerrilla Games is indeed dedicating most of its staff to Horizon Hunters Gathering, fans may need to prepare for a longer wait before Horizon 3 finally resurfaces with a proper reveal—and, eventually, a release date.
