Xiaomi Redmi 17C Launches With 120Hz Display, Huge Battery, and Budget-Friendly Price
Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 17C in China, expanding its affordable smartphone lineup with a big display, long-lasting battery, and practical everyday features. The new model arrives as the direct successor to the Redmi 15C, with Xiaomi skipping the Redmi 16C generation entirely.
The Redmi 17C is designed for users who want a low-cost smartphone that covers the basics well. It focuses on a large screen, smooth refresh rate, reliable battery life, and essential features rather than premium extras.
One of the biggest highlights is its 6.88-inch HD+ display. The screen offers a resolution of 720 x 1,640 pixels and supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which should make scrolling, animations, and general navigation feel smoother than many entry-level phones. It also includes up to 240Hz touch sampling and reaches 600 nits of brightness, making it suitable for everyday use indoors and in moderately bright outdoor conditions.
Powering the Xiaomi Redmi 17C is the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra chipset, paired with an ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The phone comes with 4GB of RAM and storage options of up to 128GB. While this is not a performance-focused device, it should be capable enough for basic tasks such as messaging, web browsing, social media, video streaming, and light app usage.
The smartphone runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 3, giving users access to Xiaomi’s latest software experience. It also supports dual SIM functionality, which is useful for people who manage personal and work numbers on the same device or frequently switch between mobile networks.
For photography, the Redmi 17C keeps things simple. It features a 13MP rear camera for basic shots and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. As expected from an affordable smartphone, the camera setup is modest, but it should be enough for casual users who only need simple photo and video capabilities.
Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, and support for multiple satellite navigation systems. The phone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that has become increasingly rare on modern smartphones. This makes the Redmi 17C more appealing to users who still prefer wired earphones or want a simple audio option without relying on Bluetooth accessories.
Another practical addition is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which allows quick and convenient unlocking while keeping the design simple.
Battery life is another major selling point. The Redmi 17C packs a 5,160 mAh battery, making it a strong option for users who want a phone that can last through a full day of typical use. Combined with its efficient hardware and HD+ display, the device should offer dependable endurance for everyday needs.
In China, the Xiaomi Redmi 17C starts at 999 yuan, which is approximately $147, for the version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The higher 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model is priced at 1,099 yuan, or around $162.
For now, Xiaomi has only confirmed the Redmi 17C for the Chinese market. Details about a global release have not yet been announced. If it launches internationally at a similar price, the Redmi 17C could become an attractive budget smartphone for buyers looking for a large 120Hz display, solid battery life, and essential features at an affordable price.
