Razer is stepping deeper into AI-powered accessories with Project Ava, a desktop companion built for Windows users that aims to make artificial intelligence feel more personal and always present. Instead of living as another app or chatbot window, Project Ava is a physical device that sits on your desk and displays a lifelike avatar on a holographic screen, designed to interact with you throughout your day.
At the center of Project Ava is a 5.5-inch holographic display that projects a 3D avatar you can talk to and engage with in real time. Razer says multiple selectable avatars will be available, each with its own personality, giving users more choice in how their AI companion looks and behaves. The avatars are designed to feel expressive, complete with facial animations and eye tracking to make interactions seem more natural.
Hardware-wise, Project Ava is built to function as a true always-on desktop companion. The device includes a speaker, far-field microphones for picking up your voice from a distance, an HD camera, and LED lighting. The goal is quick, hands-free interaction whether you’re focused on a game, in the middle of work, or moving through your daily routine.
Razer is positioning Project Ava as useful for both gaming and productivity. During gaming sessions, the holographic companion can react to your achievements, help answer in-game questions, and offer strategy suggestions. Outside of games, it’s designed to support everyday planning with to-do tracking and reminders, along with coaching features aimed at healthier habits. For work and study, Razer suggests it can assist with project development, data analysis, and live translation—use cases that align with the growing demand for AI tools that can multitask across communication and productivity.
On the AI side, the first version of Project Ava is planned to run on xAI’s Grok, with the option for expanded AI choices in the future. That flexibility could matter to users who want different AI models for different tasks, or who prefer a particular assistant experience.
If you’re interested in getting one, Razer says Project Ava can be reserved with a $20 deposit, with availability planned for the second half of 2026. Final pricing has not been announced yet, but the company is clearly framing it as a premium desktop AI companion that blends hardware, avatars, and always-available interaction into a single device.
