Radeon RX 9070 GRE Prices Slide About $100 After Launch as Demand Lags Behind the RX 9070 XT

AMD’s China-only Radeon RX 9070 GRE is struggling to win over buyers, and board partners are already slashing prices to spark interest. The card launched at 4,199 Yuan (about $590), with some premium models hitting 4,500 Yuan ($630). That positioning put it uncomfortably close to the Radeon RX 9070 XT at 4,999 Yuan (around $700), a card that not only delivers stronger performance but also comes with 4 GB more VRAM.

At the heart of the problem is the RX 9070 GRE’s spec sheet. It carries 12 GB of VRAM and uses a heavily cut-down Navi 48 die, with 3,072 stream processors versus 4,096 on the RX 9070 XT. That’s roughly 25% fewer shaders, and coupled with lower memory capacity, it’s a hard sell to gamers who prioritize longevity and higher settings in new releases.

Retail listings in China now show the RX 9070 GRE dropping to about 3,600 Yuan (~$505), with higher-end versions around 3,800 Yuan (~$533). That’s roughly a 15% drop from launch and close to a $100 cut in dollar terms. The price correction underlines what many shoppers were already thinking: paying close to $600 for a 12 GB card with reduced compute resources isn’t compelling in mid-2025.

There are reports that AMD is considering boosting the RX 9070 GRE to 16 GB of VRAM to improve its value proposition. Even so, memory alone may not fix the perception gap when the GPU also trails in core resources. The broader RX 9070 lineup is reportedly seeing the softest sales among RDNA 4 models worldwide, suggesting the issue goes beyond a single SKU.

If AMD does roll out a 16 GB RX 9070 GRE, sharper pricing will likely be essential. A target in the $449 to $479 range would make far more sense given the shader deficit and current competitive landscape. For buyers in China, the recent discounts already make the GRE a more palatable option, but those who prioritize future-proof performance may still favor cards with more VRAM and stronger cores, even at a higher upfront cost.
