AMD’s upcoming high-performance APU, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395, also known by its codename “Strix Halo,” is generating excitement following its recent test results in 3DMark. Equipped with the powerful Radeon 8050S integrated GPU (iGPU), these results demonstrate a significant leap in graphics performance.
The recently revealed Ryzen AI Max Strix Halo APUs are crafted for mobile workstations, offering a powerhouse of specifications. They can feature up to 16 Zen 5 cores, incorporate 40 RDNA 3.5 iGPU cores, and boast impressive bandwidth alongside robust IO capabilities.
A recent leak from Baidu Forums provides an early glimpse into the performance of these APUs. The shared screenshot from 3DMark Time Spy indicates that the tested Strix Halo unit sports a Radeon 8050S iGPU, expected to be a part of the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 series. This configuration uses 32 Compute Units, compared to the full 40 Compute Units in the more advanced Radeon 8060S.
What makes this chip stand out is its significant graphics prowess, thanks in part to its ability to handle up to 256 GB per second of bandwidth, vastly enhancing its graphical capabilities. In performance benchmarks, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 achieved an overall score of 9006, with a graphics score of 10,106 and a CPU score of 5571 in the 3DMark Time Spy test.
While its CPU score remains modest, the iGPU’s performance is impressive, especially when pitted against the Radeon 890M, which averages 3367 points. This marks a threefold improvement and signals the massive strides made by the Strix Halo lineup.
The Radeon 8060S iGPU, comprising 40 Compute Units, competes robustly with mainstream graphics cards such as the Radeon RX 7600 and GeForce RTX 4060. This is a testament to its exceptional performance for integrated graphics, and future iterations featuring architectures like RDNA 4 promise even more enhancements.
The highly anticipated PCs powered by Strix Halo are slated for release in the first half of 2025. As the launch date approaches, enthusiasts can expect more detailed specifications and pricing information for these formidable workstation designs.
The AMD Ryzen AI MAX 300 “Strix Halo” lineup is poised to bring substantial advancements to mobile computing, ensuring top-tier performance and efficiency.
