Qualcomm sets November 26, 2025 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 reveal
Qualcomm has locked in a November 26, 2025 unveiling for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, following a short delay from its original plan to launch alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The new chip will debut in China before reaching other regions, with early adopters expected to include the OnePlus Ace 6T, Vivo S50, and Vivo X Fold 6.
Early performance numbers from Geekbench suggest the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 delivers multi-core results on par with its Elite counterpart, while trailing slightly in single-core tests. That positioning makes sense given its role as a more accessible alternative to the Elite, while still targeting flagship-level performance for late-2025 and early-2026 smartphones.
On paper, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 closely mirrors the Elite model. It features a 2+6 CPU configuration with two performance cores reportedly clocked at 3.8 GHz and six efficiency cores at 3.36 GHz. Graphics duties are handled by the same Adreno 840 GPU found in the Elite, likely running at lower frequencies to balance thermals and power draw.
A key milestone for this generation is the move to Qualcomm’s in-house Orion CPU cores. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 becomes the first non-Elite 8-series chip to adopt Orion, marking a shift away from previous designs that relied on standard Arm Cortex IP, such as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. It remains to be seen whether the Orion cores in the 8 Gen 5 are identical to those in the Elite or tuned differently.
What to watch next: real-world battery life, sustained performance under load, and GPU clock speeds will determine how close the 8 Gen 5 lands to the Elite in day-to-day use and gaming.
