Qualcomm may be gearing up for a bigger Snapdragon launch than earlier leaks suggested. New chatter points to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 generation arriving in three versions, not just the two that have been circulating so far—and one of those chips could be produced using Samsung Foundry’s 2 nm process.
While Qualcomm is still months away from making anything official, the company typically introduces its next flagship mobile processor around September or October. That timing would line up with a successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, setting the stage for the 2026 wave of premium Android phones.
According to early information shared by leaker Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is working on two chipsets identified internally as SM8950 and SM8975. These are expected to become the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Previous rumors indicated both would be built using TSMC’s N2P manufacturing node, and that plan still appears to be in place.
The reason that matters is simple: a move to TSMC N2P could bring meaningful gains in both speed and efficiency. Internal estimates mentioned in the report suggest roughly an 18% performance uplift compared to TSMC’s N3E class manufacturing, along with a power consumption reduction of more than one-third. Those kinds of improvements are exactly what flagship buyers want to hear—better sustained performance, cooler devices, and longer battery life in demanding tasks like gaming, camera processing, and on-device AI.
What’s new in this latest report is the possibility of a third Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 family member—one produced by Samsung Foundry on its 2 nm node. If accurate, it would signal that Qualcomm is keeping its options open by sourcing cutting-edge chips from more than one manufacturer. That approach could help with supply stability, pricing leverage, or tailoring a chipset variant for specific devices and partners.
For now, the two known models (SM8950 and SM8975) are still tied to TSMC and are expected to represent the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the higher-end “Pro” variant. Any Samsung-made version would likely carry a different codename and may not be clearly identified until more leaks surface closer to launch.
Interestingly, the report also hints that Qualcomm and Samsung Foundry could collaborate even sooner, potentially delivering a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant intended for Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones. If that happens, it could serve as an early test run for Samsung’s 2 nm ambitions before the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 generation arrives.
Until Qualcomm confirms its next flagship lineup, all of this remains in the rumor stage. Still, the idea of three Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 variants—two on TSMC N2P and a third potentially on Samsung 2 nm—sets up an intriguing battle of performance, efficiency, and manufacturing strategy that could shape the next generation of high-end Android smartphones.
