QNAP Unveils Dual-Port 100GbE Expansion Card for High-Speed Network Upgrades

QNAP is pushing network speeds into seriously high-end territory with its new QXG-100G2SF-BCM expansion card, designed for users who need extreme bandwidth for NAS systems, servers, and demanding workstation setups. Built as an actively cooled PCIe add-in card, it delivers ultra-fast connectivity through two QSFP28 ports, supporting up to 2 x 100GbE for data-intensive workloads like virtualization, large-scale backups, video production pipelines, and high-speed shared storage.

At the heart of the QXG-100G2SF-BCM is a Broadcom 57508 controller, built to handle heavy throughput while keeping performance consistent under sustained loads. One of the standout features is RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) support, which helps reduce CPU overhead during transfers and cuts latency—an especially valuable benefit in environments where multiple systems are constantly moving large files or accessing shared datasets.

To use the card, you’ll need the appropriate QSFP28 transceivers or a Direct Attached Cable (DAC), since neither option comes in the box. The specific modules you choose will depend on your networking infrastructure and distance requirements. For those who prefer a straightforward, short-run connection without separate transceivers, QNAP also offers a compatible 4.9-foot DAC (CAB-DAC15M-Q28).

Installation-wise, the card is designed for a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot to unlock maximum performance, but it can also run in PCIe 3.0 systems—just with reduced bandwidth. That flexibility makes it easier to deploy in existing hardware while still providing a major networking upgrade.

QNAP includes both standard and low-profile brackets, which is helpful for NAS appliances, compact builds, and rack servers. The company also notes that special mounting brackets for selected QNAP NAS models are included, simplifying installation for certain systems. Compatibility extends beyond QNAP’s own NAS platforms as well, with support also listed for Windows 11—useful for creators and professionals building high-speed networked workstations.

The QNAP QXG-100G2SF-BCM is available now in the US with an MSRP of $999. Availability may be limited in some regions at the moment, but listings are expected to expand over the next few weeks as more retailers stock the card.
