New standard coming to iPhones and Android phones

Qi2 25W Wireless Charging Debuts with iPhone Compatibility, Set to Expand to Leading Android Devices as Industry Shifts to Rapid, Universal Magnetic Charging

Companies are on a mission to enhance customer experiences by making device interactions smoother. The Wireless Power Consortium has introduced the Qi2 wireless charging standard, which promises faster and more efficient charging for a wide range of devices. This new standard offers charging speeds of up to 25W, a significant leap from the previous Qi standard’s 7.5W-15W capabilities.

Qi2 is set to revolutionize wireless charging for both iPhones and major Android devices by breaking past the previous 15W limit. Accessory manufacturers like Anker, Baseus, and Ugreen have quickly embraced Qi2, obtaining early certifications to launch new chargers and power banks equipped with this enhanced technology. Although specific iPhone models adopting the new standard remain undisclosed, it’s possible that a software update could allow the iPhone 16 lineup to achieve full 25W Qi2 charging, and future models like the iPhone 17 may come with this feature built-in.

For Android users, the integration of Qi2 is also on the horizon, though details are not fully revealed. Brands like HMD Skyline and certain Samsung foldable phones, including the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, are noted to be “Qi2 Ready,” meaning they will provide up to 15W speeds initially, with potential full support for the 25W upgrade due to their built-in magnetic ring design.

The introduction of Qi2 marks an important evolution in wireless charging, potentially streamlining and unifying the charging experiences across Apple and Android ecosystems, leading to a faster and more efficient system overall.
