PUBG Mobile Version 4.4, called Hero’s Crown, arrives on May 12 for iOS and Android, and it’s shaping up to be one of the game’s biggest theme-driven updates in years. Instead of a simple cosmetic refresh, Hero’s Crown pulls Erangel into a Greek and Roman mythology-inspired makeover, introducing new locations, a major high-risk loot zone, a timed PvE boss fight, fresh combat abilities, meaningful weapon meta changes, and a packed lineup of crossover and collaboration events scheduled throughout May.
Erangel gets a full mythological reimagining, with several well-known areas redesigned to match the new theme. Yasnaya Polyana, the Ruins, Ferry Pier, and Mylta now feature Greek-style architecture layered over familiar layouts—think marble columns, temple structures honoring Olympian gods, gladiator barracks, and war banners replacing the traditional Eastern European vibe. These changes aren’t just for show. New structures and altered geometry can impact early-game drop decisions, sightlines, and rotation paths, meaning squads may need to rethink how they approach opening fights and positioning on the map.
The centerpiece of the update is Nimbus Island, a floating hotspot known as Crown’s Abode. It’s designed to be a high-reward destination with top-tier loot and extra revival opportunities, but it also adds new ways to influence fights through two active abilities. Heart of Fury delivers a combat boost, while Spartan Flag expands a team’s buff zone to support coordinated pushes and defenses. At the heart of Nimbus Island is a Centaur boss encounter that turns the area into a timed PvE challenge: squads get three minutes to take it down, trading danger and attention from other players for rare loot and unique rewards.
Progression in Hero’s Crown is anchored by a new system called Divine Trials. Four mythology-themed trials—Achilles, Spartan, Icarus, and Griffin—are spread across the map. Completing them grants Glory Medals, which carry across matches and build toward unlocking exclusive seasonal rewards. Also joining the update is a new vehicle built for spectacle and speed: the Chariot. Powered by fire horses, it can reach 85 km/h, and when fully charged it can briefly become airborne, adding a new twist to escapes, rotations, and aggressive pushes.
Combat gets a shake-up as well. The M1 Garand joins the roster as a new sniper rifle, and the wider balance changes are set to noticeably shift how fights play out at range. Sniper rifles receive a major buff with damage reduction over distance disabled, making long-range shots hit as hard as they would up close. Meanwhile, assault rifles are tuned down with reduced damage over distance, and shotguns get adjustments affecting armor damage and spread—changes that could influence close-quarters loadouts and building clears. For players who chase cosmetics, the premium highlight is the Gilt Set, an upgradable Spartan Conqueror-themed outfit paired with matching weapon skins.
The update also kicks off a busy May calendar of in-game events. Ranked Season 30 begins May 13, alongside a Ford Motor Cruise collaboration event. A Harley-Davidson collaboration follows on May 15. Then on May 22, PUBG Mobile teams up with the Blue Lock anime for a crossover featuring character skins based on Yoichi Isagi, Seishiro Nagi, Meguru Bachira, and Rin Itoshi. These items are tied to a 500 UC Prize Path progression system, and players can grab early access Blue Lock rewards starting May 14 by logging in before the main event begins.
With a myth-themed Erangel overhaul, a floating loot island with a boss fight, new trials and rewards, a high-speed chariot, and significant weapon balancing, PUBG Mobile 4.4: Hero’s Crown is built to refresh both how the game looks and how it plays—right as the new season and major collaborations roll in.
