Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Reports Strong Q3 Growth as Foundry Prices Rise
Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing is seeing renewed momentum as demand for mature-node chip production improves and pricing conditions become more favorable. The company reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of NT$21.3 billion, or approximately US$654.3 million, marking a 23% increase compared with the previous quarter.
The strong quarterly performance was supported by higher foundry pricing, an improved average selling price, and better capacity utilization across its production lines. These gains suggest that the mature-node semiconductor market, which had faced pressure from weaker demand and inventory corrections in recent years, is beginning to stabilize.
PSMC’s latest results highlight a shift in the foundry landscape. While advanced chip manufacturing often attracts the most attention, mature process nodes remain essential for a wide range of products, including automotive electronics, industrial equipment, display drivers, power management chips, consumer devices, and Internet of Things hardware. These chips may not use the newest manufacturing technologies, but they are critical to everyday electronics and continue to generate steady demand.
The company has also been moving to increase prices for mature-node manufacturing. According to industry direction reflected in its recent performance, PSMC is aiming for further price adjustments, with a possible increase of around 20% in 2027. If implemented, this could significantly improve profitability, especially if utilization rates remain healthy.
Rising foundry prices are being driven by several factors. Demand for legacy chips is recovering, customers are placing more stable orders, and manufacturers are working to offset higher operating costs. At the same time, chipmakers are becoming more disciplined with capacity expansion, helping reduce the oversupply concerns that previously weighed on the sector.
For PSMC, stronger average selling prices are especially important. Higher ASPs allow the company to generate more revenue from existing capacity, improving margins without requiring major immediate expansion. Combined with improved factory utilization, this creates a more efficient operating environment and supports stronger financial results.
The company’s third-quarter revenue jump also signals that customers may be securing production capacity ahead of expected price hikes. As industries such as automotive, industrial automation, and consumer electronics continue to rely on mature-node chips, foundries with established production capabilities could benefit from renewed demand.
Looking ahead, PSMC’s performance will depend on whether market recovery continues into 2027. If orders remain steady and price increases are accepted by customers, the company could see further revenue growth. However, the semiconductor market remains cyclical, and any slowdown in end-market demand could affect utilization and pricing power.
Still, the latest quarterly results show that PSMC is benefiting from a more favorable foundry environment. With mature-node chips remaining vital across multiple industries, the company’s focus on pricing discipline and capacity efficiency could position it well for the next phase of semiconductor market recovery.
