PS5 Emulator KytyPS5 Runs GTA 5 on PC at Up to 60 FPS in Major Breakthrough
PlayStation 5 emulation is moving faster than many expected, and the latest progress from the KytyPS5 emulator is turning heads. In a new gameplay demonstration shared online, the emulator is shown running the PS5 version of GTA 5 on a PC at up to 60 FPS, marking a major step forward for current-generation console emulation.
The footage features GTA 5’s iconic North Yankton prologue mission running in real time on PC hardware. Performance appears surprisingly strong for an emulator still in early development, with the game fluctuating between roughly 40 and 60 frames per second depending on the intensity of the scene. For fans following PS5 emulation, this is an impressive milestone, especially considering how complex Rockstar’s open-world games can be to emulate properly.
Of course, achieving this level of performance requires serious hardware. The test system reportedly used a Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor paired with a Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card, making it clear that this is not yet something average gaming PCs can handle smoothly. Even with powerful components, the emulator remains unstable and far from ready for normal gameplay.
The biggest issue right now is crashing. In the gameplay demo, GTA 5 runs smoothly through the early portion of the prologue but crashes just before the first major police shootout. That means the game is not truly playable from start to finish yet, but the fact that it can render the PS5 version at high frame rates on PC is still a remarkable technical achievement.
Some modders have also managed to skip the opening mission and access GTA 5’s open world through the emulator. Performance in the city was much rougher at first, reportedly dropping below 15 FPS in some areas. However, the frame rate later improved into the mid-40s during real-time engine cutscenes. Unfortunately, the game crashed again once the cinematic sequence ended, showing that stability remains the biggest obstacle for KytyPS5.
Even so, this progress is significant. Just a short time ago, the emulator struggled to move beyond splash screens and basic menus in demanding PS5 games. Now, it is pushing a large 3D title like GTA 5 into real-time gameplay with frame rates that can briefly reach console-quality smoothness. That kind of improvement suggests the development pace behind KytyPS5 is accelerating quickly.
GTA 5 is not the only game showing promise on the emulator. Several other PS5 titles have reportedly reached stable 60 FPS performance in testing, including Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered and Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. While smaller or less demanding games are naturally easier to run than massive open-world releases, these results still show that PS5 emulation on PC is becoming more capable with each new build.
The growing interest in PS5 emulation is also tied to the future of Rockstar’s biggest franchise. GTA 6 is expected to launch first on current-generation consoles, with no immediate PC version confirmed at release. Because of that, many PC players are watching projects like KytyPS5 closely, hoping that emulation may eventually offer another way to experience console-exclusive releases without waiting years for a native PC port.
For now, KytyPS5 is still experimental. GTA 5 may reach up to 60 FPS in certain scenes, but crashes, performance drops, and compatibility problems make it unsuitable for regular play. Still, the progress is hard to ignore. Running the PS5 version of GTA 5 on PC at all is impressive; seeing it approach smooth frame rates is a clear sign that the PS5 emulation scene is entering an exciting new phase.
If development continues at this speed, KytyPS5 could become one of the most important emulator projects to watch in the coming years. It is not ready to replace a real PS5 yet, but the latest GTA 5 test proves that the gap between console hardware and PC emulation is starting to shrink faster than expected.
