The possibility of Sony’s Xperia 1 VI making its way to the United States has sparked interest among fans awaiting its presence in the American market. The high-end smartphone from Sony’s Xperia series was initially unveiled in May and quickly became available for pre-orders in some regions including the UK, with shipments anticipated to begin in June. Despite this, reports had emerged suggesting that the US might not see an official release.
A strong following remains for the premium Xperia 1 series, despite its seemingly niche appeal in the smartphone market. Speculation had been rife about the future of the Xperia line, particularly following hints that the Xperia 1 VI might bypass the US market entirely. This narrative took an interesting turn when a new certification listing hinted at the existence of a US variant of the Xperia 1 VI.
The documentation in question, stemming from Bluetooth certification, lists a device with the model number XQ-EC64. Comparing this with the model number of the previous iteration available in the US, the Xperia 1 V, which carried the model XQ-DQ62, it becomes apparent that the distinction in model numbers aligns with Sony’s regional variant coding. For reference, the European model bears the number DQ54, while the Asia Pacific variant is labeled DQ72.
The certification, dated May 28, suggests that plans to launch the Sony Xperia 1 VI in the United States may have been in motion, although it remains unclear if those plans still stand. It’s possible, as well, that Sony had intended a US launch but later retracted the decision, with the certification serving as a vestige of the original plan.
This speculation arises amid the backdrop of the Xperia 1 VI’s hardware offerings, which include the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The prospective introduction of such a device in the US smartphone market holds significance for consumers seeking high-performance options.
While these findings offer a glimmer of hope for US consumers eager to get their hands on the new Sony flagship, an official confirmation or announcement from Sony would be required to solidify the Xperia 1 VI’s availability in the US. For now, enthusiasts and potential buyers are left to wait and watch for any further developments.
