Call of Duty: WWII and Mafia III Appear Free on PlayStation Store in Some Regions
Two well-known PS4 titles, Call of Duty: WWII and Mafia III, are currently showing up as free on the PlayStation Store in select regions, and players may not need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to claim them.
The situation is unusual, though. While some users have successfully added the games to their PlayStation libraries, others are running into checkout errors, which suggests this may be a pricing mistake rather than an official free game promotion.
At the time of writing, the UK PlayStation Store lists the standard edition of Call of Duty: WWII as free, with an “Add to Library” option available. The offer appears to apply only to the base version of the game. Other editions, including the Gold Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition, remain paid or discounted separately.
Players in Poland have also reported seeing the standard edition of Call of Duty: WWII available for free, making this more than a single-region listing issue.
Mafia III is showing similar behavior. On the UK PlayStation Store, the base version of Mafia III is listed as free, while Mafia III: Definitive Edition still carries a price. Some downloadable content for the game also appears to be free in certain listings.
However, claiming Mafia III has proven inconsistent. Reports from players suggest that some accounts can add the game without issue, while others receive a generic error message saying, “Something went wrong. Try again later.” One user who looked deeper into the failed transaction reportedly found a checkout message stating, “Pricing: SKU is invalid,” which points to a possible mismatch between the public store price and PlayStation’s internal pricing system.
This kind of error can happen when a storefront accidentally displays the wrong price before the backend has been properly updated. It could also be a temporary regional promotion that has not rolled out smoothly. For now, there has been no clear confirmation explaining whether these free listings are intentional.
If you are in a region where Call of Duty: WWII or Mafia III appears as free, it may be worth trying to add them to your library while the option is available. Since no PlayStation Plus subscription appears to be required, the games could remain tied to your account if the claim goes through successfully.
That said, players should keep expectations realistic. Sony may correct the listings at any time, and if the free price is the result of an error, there is always a chance that licenses claimed through the mistake could be adjusted later.
For now, PlayStation users in the UK, Poland, Portugal, and other supported regions should check the PS Store directly to see whether the free PS4 game offer is available on their accounts.
