Debuting this year, AMD’s Zen 5 mobile lineup, also known as Strix Halo or Ryzen AI Max, intrigued many with its powerhouse 16-core processors. However, the hefty price tag associated with such technology has made companies cautious. Despite this, GPD, a Chinese handheld maker, appears to have crafted a prototype using these impressive specs.
A recent leak showcased this handheld scoring 10,393 points overall and 10,366 in Graphics on Time Spy—thanks to the potent Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor with its RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 8060S. This score sets a new benchmark for handheld devices, surpassing previous models utilizing Strix Point chips or Intel’s Lunar Lake hardware.
Such performance means the GPD device could potentially run modern games at high to ultra settings, achieving over 60 fps at 1080p. Yet, the challenge lies in power consumption, as it requires significantly more than its predecessors.
Despite its groundbreaking capabilities, industry insiders suggest this device might never reach mainstream markets. The cost of Strix Halo integrated devices typically surpasses $1500, with handheld versions likely exceeding $2000—a price that isn’t feasible for many consumers.
