Peak’s Final Ascent update arrives August 11 with new biomes, a terrifying hunter, and Scoutmaster Myres’ long-awaited voice
Aggro Crab and Landfall Games are preparing to close a major chapter for Peak. The co-op climbing adventure is getting its final major content update, titled The Final Ascent, on August 11, marking one year since the game received its first content drop.
The studios say they have been hard at work building this last big update, and it sounds like Peak is going out with a memorable climb. The Final Ascent introduces two new late-game biomes designed to test even experienced players who have already mastered the mountain’s most dangerous routes.
The first new area is The Gloom, a mist-covered, eerie swamp filled with a ghostly atmosphere. It appears to bring a slower, more unsettling kind of danger to the game, leaning into tension and visibility challenges rather than pure vertical chaos.
The second biome, The Citadel, sends players into a towering medieval fortress built around vertical climbing. This area looks far more aggressive, with hazards such as swinging flail traps threatening to knock players off course. For a game already known for turning every climb into a fight against physics, panic, and teamwork, The Citadel seems ready to push coordination to the limit.
Importantly, these new biomes are not replacing Peak’s existing late-game areas. Instead, The Gloom and The Citadel will rotate alongside the current Caldera and The Kiln biomes, giving returning players more variety while keeping the established endgame intact.
The Final Ascent may also change the tone of Peak in a big way. The update’s trailer teases a creature that actively hunts players during their climb. That is a major shift for the game, which has mostly built its tension around dangerous terrain, harsh weather, risky jumps, and the mistakes players make under pressure. A monster that pursues climbers adds a new layer of fear, forcing teams to worry about more than just the mountain beneath their feet.
One of the update’s biggest surprises is the official voice debut of Scoutmaster Myres. The towering skeletal figure has been part of Peak’s mystery since launch, but players will finally hear him speak in The Final Ascent trailer. He is voiced by Xalavier Nelson Jr., the creator of El Paso, Elsewhere and founder of indie studio Strange Scaffold.
In the trailer, Scoutmaster Myres narrates more of his own backstory as the leader of the scout troop stranded on the mysterious island at the heart of Peak. That detail has already sparked plenty of fan theories. Some players believe the new lore could lead to a final confrontation, while others wonder if The Final Ascent may give them a chance to rescue him in some form.
Aggro Crab and Landfall have been clear that The Final Ascent truly is the game’s last major content update. Peak was not designed to be a live-service game, and both studios have previously explained that updates would slow down through 2026 as they shift attention to new projects. One of those projects is Aggro Crab’s co-op game Crashout Crew.
For fans, the announcement feels bittersweet. There is excitement around the new biomes, the more threatening enemy presence, and the added lore surrounding Scoutmaster Myres. At the same time, many players are treating The Final Ascent as a farewell to one of the most memorable co-op climbing experiences in recent years.
Once the update arrives on August 11, Peak players will have one last major mountain to conquer. With haunted swamps, a deadly fortress, a hunting monster, and the long-awaited voice of Scoutmaster Myres, The Final Ascent looks set to give the game a dramatic and fitting final climb.
