OWC Unveils Tiny USB4 Hub With 40Gbps Speed, Dual 4K Output, and 81W Power Delivery

OWC USB4 Hub Debuts as a Compact 40Gbps Dock Alternative With Dual 4K Display Support

OWC has introduced a new compact USB4 Hub designed for users who want high-speed expansion without the size and complexity of a full desktop docking station. The new OWC USB4 Hub turns a single USB4 port into a practical multi-port setup for external displays, fast storage drives, and everyday accessories, while also delivering up to 81W of power to a connected laptop.

The hub is aimed at professionals, creators, students, and remote workers who need more connectivity from modern thin-and-light laptops. Many newer notebooks rely heavily on USB-C or USB4 ports, which can be limiting when connecting monitors, SSDs, card readers, keyboards, or other peripherals. OWC’s new hub offers a cleaner way to expand those options while keeping the desk setup compact.

Measuring just 1.2 x 3.1 x 6.6 inches and weighing a little over half a pound, the OWC USB4 Hub is small enough for a minimalist workstation and portable enough to move between home, office, and travel setups. Its aluminum enclosure gives it a more premium feel than many plastic travel hubs, while raised feet and ventilated sides help manage heat during longer sessions.

In terms of connectivity, the hub includes six ports in total. On the front, users get two 10Gbps USB-C ports for accessories, external drives, or other USB-C devices. Around the back, there are two downstream USB4 ports, one HDMI 2.1 output, and the host USB4 port used to connect the hub to a laptop or tablet.

The hub supports up to 40Gbps of total bandwidth, which makes it suitable for demanding accessories such as high-speed external storage and display output. However, each downstream USB4 port is limited to 20Gbps. That is still fast enough for many workflows, including using two quick external drives at the same time, though users looking for the maximum performance from a single USB4 SSD may still prefer plugging it directly into their laptop.

Display support is one of the biggest highlights. The OWC USB4 Hub can drive up to two external 4K monitors at 60Hz using its HDMI 2.1 and USB4 outputs, depending on the capabilities of the connected computer. For users with a single-monitor setup, it can support up to 8K at 60Hz through HDMI or up to 4K at 240Hz through USB4, making it appealing for high-resolution productivity setups as well as high-refresh-rate displays.

Power delivery is another strong point. With up to 81W laptop charging, the hub can keep many USB-C laptops powered while connected to monitors and peripherals. That makes it useful as a simplified docking solution, especially for users who want to plug in one cable and instantly connect their workspace.

Compatibility is broad. The OWC USB4 Hub works with USB4, Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, and standard USB-C systems. That includes many Mac, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS laptops, along with compatible iPad Pro models. This wide support makes it flexible for mixed-device households, hybrid work environments, and users who upgrade devices regularly.

Unlike some larger docks, this model does not include a cooling fan. Instead, OWC relies on the aluminum body, elevated base, and side ventilation for passive cooling. That should help keep noise levels down while maintaining a slim and portable design.

The OWC USB4 Hub is available for pre-order at $129.99, with shipping expected near the end of October. While it is more expensive than some basic USB-C or USB4 travel hubs, it offers a stronger mix of high-speed ports, HDMI 2.1 support, dual 4K display capability, and premium aluminum construction. The main trade-offs are the lack of USB-A ports and Ethernet, which may matter to users with older peripherals or wired network needs.

Alongside the hub, OWC also announced new 40Gbps active optical USB4 cables in 3-meter and 5-meter lengths. The 3-meter cable is priced at $98.99, while the 5-meter version is priced at $129.99. Both are expected to arrive in mid-October.

For users searching for a compact USB4 hub with 40Gbps bandwidth, HDMI 2.1, dual 4K monitor support, and laptop charging in one portable device, the new OWC USB4 Hub looks like a strong alternative to a full-sized docking station.
