The OneXPlayer 2 Pro, launched last year with the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU and detachable controllers, is set for a significant refresh. Its manufacturer, One-Netbook, is looking to push the boundaries of handheld gaming performance with an update to the latest Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point” APU. The announcement for this upcoming upgrade is slated for the 26th of February.
The Ryzen 7 8840U APU is a powerhouse built on AMD’s cutting-edge Zen 4 architecture, boasting 8 cores and 16 threads. It features a formidable 780M RDNA 3-based GPU with 12 CUs, capable of achieving a 2.7 GHz maximum clock for the GPU and up to 5.1 GHz for the CPU. In performance terms, the 8840U stands out, as seen in recent benchmark results where it significantly outstripped the Steam Deck’s “Van Gogh” APU performance at a 10-watt power envelope during heavy games like Batman Arkham Knight.
Advancements are not only seen in the CPU and GPU, as the “Hawk Point” APU also includes a faster XDNA NPU compared to its predecessor, the “Phoenix Point” APU. This points to a considerable uplift in terms of device intelligence and processing capabilities.
The OneXPlayer 2 Pro is designed to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding gamers with a feature set expected of a premium handheld device. It sports a substantial 2.5K 8.4-inch display and gives gamers room for performance scaling with support for up to 64 GB of the latest LPDDR5X-7500 memory. Storage is equally flexible, with options extending up to 4 TB of PCIe Gen 4 flash storage, ensuring that players have ample space for a vast library of games.
With the official pricing yet to be announced, consumers can anticipate that this high-spec handheld will command a premium, reflective of its advanced capabilities. As is the case with its predecessor, currently retailing at $1,299, the new iteration aims to cater to those who prioritize performance and cutting-edge features in their portable gaming experience.
