OnePlus is kicking off a sizable February 2026 OxygenOS update that targets a surprisingly wide range of phones and tablets, delivering major upgrades to the Photos app, new built-in video editing tools, and improved AI features like AI Eraser and AI Writer. The roll out has already started and should reach all eligible users by around March 5, making this one of the more substantial OnePlus system updates in recent months.
The update arrives as version B40P02, with separate build identifiers for phones and tablets. It’s designed to cover everything from newer flagships to older models still running OxygenOS 13 and 14, which is good news for OnePlus owners who don’t always expect feature-focused improvements outside the newest devices.
The biggest spotlight is on the Photos app, where everyday browsing and editing are getting a clear boost. OnePlus says gesture animations when swiping through images are now smoother and more responsive, while OxygenOS 16 devices also benefit from improved thumbnail processing for faster loading when scrolling through large libraries. These changes may sound small, but they’re the kind that make the gallery feel noticeably quicker and more polished in daily use.
Another standout is the upgraded video editor built directly into the Photos experience. Instead of forcing users to jump into third-party apps for basic edits, the updated toolset supports cutting and splitting clips, stitching multiple clips together, adding music, applying text overlays, adjusting playback speed, and cropping. For many users, that turns the gallery into a lightweight video editing suite that’s easier for quick social clips and everyday projects.
AI-powered editing gets meaningful improvements as well. AI Eraser is being refined to leave fewer visible artifacts behind after removing unwanted objects, aiming for a cleaner and more natural finish. There’s also an enhanced “Remove reflections” feature that’s meant to better handle glare, including reflections in document photos and portraits where glasses can catch distracting light.
OnePlus is also adding a creative option called “Popout” within the Collage feature, which lets a subject appear to break outside the frame for a layered, eye-catching effect. On top of that, Photos now includes additional filtering options to help users sort content faster, including Motion Photos, screenshots and screen recordings, and edited media. And if you’ve ever snapped a slightly tilted building or crooked portrait, Auto Straighten can now correct skewed images more quickly during crop and rotate edits.
Beyond Photos, OxygenOS 16 devices gain an expanded AI Writer experience. The “Write anything” mode now supports more formats, including compositions, letters, proposals, job descriptions, and even video scripts—positioning it as a broader writing assistant rather than a simple text generator for short messages.
Privacy and file handling also get attention. Private Safe is being sped up for adding images and files, and it now supports editing photos and videos directly inside Private Safe without needing to move them out first, which is a practical quality-of-life improvement for users who regularly store sensitive media.
Finally, OnePlus notes general system stability improvements, which typically includes behind-the-scenes tuning for smoother performance and fewer bugs.
Eligible devices include a large mix across OxygenOS 16, OxygenOS 15, OxygenOS 14, and OxygenOS 13 builds. The rollout list spans the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 15 series, OnePlus 13 and 13R, OnePlus 12 series, OnePlus 11, multiple Nord generations (including Nord CE 2 and Nord CE 5G from 2021), and OnePlus tablets such as the OnePlus Pad lineup and Pad Go, along with OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro on OxygenOS 13.1 and additional Nord models still on OxygenOS 13.
If you’re waiting on the update, keep an eye on your system update screen over the next few days—OnePlus expects broad availability by early March, and this one brings enough photo, video, and AI improvements to feel like more than a routine monthly patch.
