OnePlus 16 moves closer to launch in China with certification sighting and major spec leaks
The OnePlus 16 appears to be getting closer to its official debut in China, with a new certification listing adding more weight to recent launch rumors. While OnePlus has not yet fully revealed the device, early signs suggest the next flagship phone could bring major upgrades in performance, battery life, display technology, and camera hardware.
A broad international release for the OnePlus 16 does not seem likely at this stage. OnePlus has already confirmed that it will no longer introduce new products in North American and European markets. There have also been earlier claims that the OnePlus 16 may not launch in India, although the company continues to release other devices in the country, including more affordable models such as the OnePlus N6x.
For now, China appears to be the main target market for the upcoming flagship. OnePlus has already teased the OnePlus 16 during the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards event, suggesting that the phone may be positioned as a high-performance device with a strong focus on gaming and premium hardware.
Adding to the speculation, a new OnePlus device with the model number PYB110 has received SRRC certification in China. The listing does not confirm the official product name, but reliable industry chatter suggests that this model could be the OnePlus 16.
The certification confirms support for several connectivity options, including 5G with the n79 band, GSM, WCDMA, LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. However, the listing does not reveal detailed specifications such as the processor, display, battery, or camera setup.
Previous leaks, however, have already painted a clearer picture of what the OnePlus 16 may offer. The phone is expected to keep the same 6.78-inch display size as the OnePlus 15, but it could introduce a much faster 185Hz refresh rate. If accurate, this would make the device especially appealing to mobile gamers and users who want ultra-smooth scrolling, faster touch response, and a more fluid viewing experience.
Battery life could be another major highlight. The OnePlus 16 is rumored to feature a massive battery of around 9,000mAh, which would be a significant jump compared to typical flagship smartphones. A battery of that size could give the device impressive endurance, especially for gaming, video streaming, navigation, and heavy multitasking.
Performance is also expected to receive a major boost. The OnePlus 16 may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, which is rumored to be built on a 2nm process. If true, this could bring better speed, improved power efficiency, and stronger thermal performance. The chip may also support LPDDR6 RAM, giving the phone faster memory performance for demanding apps and games.
The camera system could see one of the biggest upgrades. The OnePlus 16 is rumored to feature a 200MP main camera, replacing the 50MP main sensor used on the OnePlus 15. This could improve detail capture, low-light performance, and digital zoom quality, depending on the final sensor and software tuning. The ultrawide and telephoto cameras may remain at 50MP, giving the phone a triple-camera setup aimed at flagship-level photography.
Pricing may also increase. A previous leak suggests that the OnePlus 16 could start at CNY 5,499, which is around $815, for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version. By comparison, the OnePlus 15 with the same memory and storage configuration is currently priced at CNY 5,099, or around $755, in China. The OnePlus 16 may also come in an 8GB RAM variant, which could serve as a lower-cost option.
Although OnePlus has not yet confirmed the final launch date, the certification listing suggests that the phone is moving through the required approval process ahead of release. With a rumored 185Hz display, huge 9,000mAh battery, next-generation Snapdragon chip, and 200MP camera, the OnePlus 16 could become one of the most powerful Android flagship phones in China when it launches.
