The OnePlus 16 has officially made its first appearance, and it is already shaping up to be one of the most eye-catching flagship smartphones of 2026. Expected to be among the first devices in China powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship Snapdragon chipset, the phone is drawing attention not only for its expected performance but also for its unique illuminated design.
Shortly after the initial reveal, early hands-on videos began circulating online, giving a closer look at the OnePlus 16 and its special “interstellar lighting effects.” These lights appear to be exclusive to the Tomorrow’s Starlight color variant, making it the standout option in the lineup. OnePlus has confirmed that the built-in LEDs are not available on the other color versions, which seem to rely on a more traditional exterior finish.
The lighting system on the Tomorrow’s Starlight model appears to be split into three separate zones. Two illuminated sections are positioned near the bottom of the rear panel, while another sits near the top-right area beside the camera island. When activated, the LEDs highlight the OnePlus 16 logo at the lower left, the Tomorrow’s Starlight coordinates at the lower right, and a star-shaped symbol near the upper-right corner.
Unlike RGB lighting often seen on gaming devices, the OnePlus 16 uses warm-toned LEDs that blend with the overall theme of the Tomorrow’s Starlight design. The result is more elegant than flashy, giving the phone a futuristic but refined look. Hands-on footage suggests the lights are bright enough to stand out even in a well-lit room, without appearing overly aggressive.
The rear panel also includes additional visual details, such as a hidden Morse code-style design element. However, these extra accents do not appear to be illuminated. Instead, they seem to serve as subtle design touches that add personality to the phone’s special edition finish.
The front of the OnePlus 16 has also been shown in some early videos, revealing a display with very slim bezels. The previous-generation model already had impressively narrow borders, but the OnePlus 16 appears to reduce them even further. This should help deliver a more immersive viewing experience for gaming, streaming, browsing, and everyday use.
While OnePlus has not yet published the full specification sheet, early pre-order information has revealed that the phone can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. Combined with the next-generation Snapdragon flagship processor, the OnePlus 16 is expected to target users who want top-tier performance, fast multitasking, and generous storage capacity.
For now, many key details remain unknown, including the camera hardware, battery capacity, charging speed, display specifications, and software features. OnePlus is expected to reveal more information during the official China launch, which could take place in September 2026.
