Once Human console release date confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Starry Studio has officially confirmed that Once Human, its free-to-play post-apocalyptic multiplayer survival game, is coming to consoles on August 25. The game will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing its strange open world, survival systems, base building, and supernatural combat to a wider audience.
Although Once Human will be free to play on consoles, players can already preorder a Starter Pack for $9.99 through the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. The game is currently available on Windows PC through Steam and on mobile devices.
Once Human is set in a ruined world transformed by a mysterious alien substance known as Stardust. This contamination has spread through the environment, affecting plants, animals, humans, and even the air itself. Most people could not survive the disaster, but some evolved into Meta-Humans, rare survivors capable of using Stardust’s power instead of being consumed by it.
Players step into the role of one of these Meta-Humans and must explore a dangerous open world filled with mutated creatures, scarce resources, rival survivors, and ancient horrors. The game blends survival gameplay with multiplayer cooperation, third-person combat, crafting, exploration, and base customization.
The world of Once Human takes place across Nalcott, a massive seamless map spanning 256 square kilometers. Players can travel through frozen tundras, deserts, swamps, rivers, volcanic regions, and abandoned settlements while hunting, farming, scavenging, and fighting to stay alive. Every environment presents its own threats, forcing players to adapt their strategy depending on where they choose to explore or settle.
Combat plays a major role in the experience. Players will face monstrous enemies known as Deviants, creatures twisted by Stardust into bizarre and deadly forms. Survival often depends on teamwork, planning, weapon choice, and quick reactions. Groups can join forces to take down powerful threats, compete over valuable resources, and push deeper into the mysteries behind the apocalypse.
Base building is another major feature in Once Human. Players can construct a shelter almost anywhere in the wilderness and customize it with rooms, defenses, storage areas, traps, garages, kitchens, patios, and more. A well-designed base can serve as a safe zone, a crafting hub, and a defensive stronghold against both monsters and hostile players.
The game also introduces Deviation companions, unusual creatures that can help players survive. These companions can assist in combat, gather resources, cook, mine, and support base operations. Examples include a gun-wielding alpaca, a small blue dragon chef, and other strange allies. However, they require care and attention, meaning players must keep them comfortable and satisfied if they want them to remain loyal.
With its console launch now set for August 25, Once Human is preparing to expand beyond PC and mobile with a full release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. For players looking for a free-to-play survival game with a supernatural twist, large-scale exploration, cooperative action, base building, and bizarre creature companions, Once Human could be one of the more interesting console releases to watch this summer.
