NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB Launch May Slip Beyond January 2027
NVIDIA’s rumored GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB may not arrive as early as previously expected, with fresh industry chatter suggesting that the graphics card could miss its anticipated January 2027 launch window.
The main issue appears to be timing. NVIDIA was reportedly expected to provide its add-in-card partners with the required design documentation in October 2026. These materials are essential for board partners to begin developing custom models, finalize PCB layouts, validate cooling solutions, and prepare the card for production. However, by the end of October, those design kits had allegedly not yet been delivered.
That delay could make a January 2027 retail launch difficult. Graphics card manufacturers typically need several weeks after receiving final design information before they can complete testing, certification, and production planning. With current PCB procurement challenges and component supply issues also affecting the market, the timeline may be even tighter than usual.
Earlier rumors suggested NVIDIA was pushing to accelerate the release of its new 24 GB graphics card, with some distribution-side sources pointing to a possible December 2026 or January 2027 debut. Other reports had indicated a wider Q1 2027 launch window, which now appears more realistic if board partners are still waiting for the necessary development materials.
NVIDIA could still reveal the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB during CES 2027, which is scheduled for January 6–9. A formal announcement at the event would allow the company to introduce the card early in the year, even if actual availability follows weeks later. For now, there is no confirmed release date.
The rumored GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB is expected to succeed or replace the current GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB model. Its biggest upgrade would be memory capacity, increasing from 16 GB to 24 GB of GDDR7 VRAM. That would represent a 50% increase, making the card more appealing for high-resolution gaming, heavy texture packs, creator workloads, AI-assisted applications, and demanding future titles.
The additional memory is rumored to come from eight higher-density 3 GB GDDR7 modules while keeping the same 256-bit memory bus. If true, NVIDIA could expand VRAM capacity without drastically redesigning the memory interface.
What remains unclear is whether the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB will bring other performance improvements. Previous rumors around a possible upgraded RTX 5080 variant mentioned higher GPU clocks, increased memory bandwidth, and potentially higher power consumption. However, none of those details have been confirmed, and it is still unknown whether the 24 GB model will simply offer more memory or arrive with broader specification changes.
The uncertainty comes at a time when NVIDIA’s high-end Blackwell graphics cards are already facing availability and pricing pressure. The GeForce RTX 5080 launched with a $999 MSRP, but many retail listings have reportedly appeared far above that price, with some models selling for significantly more due to limited supply and strong demand.
If NVIDIA is preparing to phase out the 16 GB version while the 24 GB model slips deeper into Q1 2027, buyers could face continued shortages and elevated prices in the months ahead. Enthusiasts waiting for a more future-proof RTX 5080 may need to be patient, especially if custom board designs have not yet entered full development.
At this stage, NVIDIA has not officially announced the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB. That means the card’s specifications, pricing, performance, and launch timing remain unconfirmed. Until NVIDIA shares official details, the RTX 5080 24 GB should be treated as a rumored product, even though signs continue to suggest that a higher-memory version may be on the way.
