NVIDIA graphics cards maintain their stronghold as the top preferences in the gaming community, as revealed by the latest market share stats from Steam. The RTX 3060, in particular, stands out as the foremost pick among PC gamers.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Shines in the Steam Hardware Market Survey, with Intel CPUs Leading the Pack
Steam, the prominent PC gaming platform, serves a massive audience of 150 million active users monthly and boasts up to 34 million concurrent players. It’s a central hub for a vast array of games and each month, it gauges the gaming rig components of millions of participants.
For years, NVIDIA and Intel have been frontrunners in the Steam ecosystem, and as of March 2024, the trend continues. NVIDIA GPUs are found in 78% of the participants’ systems, with AMD GPUs at 14.64% and Intel GPUs, which are largely integrated graphics, following at 7.24%. Impressively, 93.76% of players are equipped with DirectX 12 capable GPUs.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, which debuted in 2021, is at the top of the list with a 6.92% share, even experiencing a noteworthy 0.75% gain recently. This could be attributed to the second-hand market’s availability and worldwide discounts on the GPU.
Despite the introduction of the RTX 4060 line, the RTX 3060 remains in production to meet persistent demand. The RTX 2060 follows as the second most utilized GPU with a 4.10% share, and the GTX 1650 is close behind at 4.07%. NVIDIA has ceased producing its GeForce 16 series.
The GeForce RTX 4060 has become the desired option among the latest RTX 40 “Ada” series, with a share of 2.59% in just under a year from its release. The RTX 4070 is nearly at par with a 2.50% share, noteworthy given its higher price tag. The top-end GeForce RTX 4090 also outpaces the RTX 4080 in popularity.
From AMD’s lineup, the RX 7900 XTX is noticeable, though it has a modest share of 0.34%, while AMD’s integrated Radeon Graphics make up 1.98%.
On the CPU side, Intel CPUs continue to be the go-to choice for 68.07% of the gaming crowd, while AMD has captured 31.93% share thanks to its robust Ryzen series. In terms of core count, 6-core processors lead with a 35.69% share, followed by 8-core CPUs at 19.49%. Remarkably, quad-core processors are still quite prevalent, closely trailing 8-core systems at 19.30%.
