A recent report from a Reddit user has sparked discussions about potential quality control issues with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. The user, known by the handle MutedMobile3977, highlighted a distressing “coil whine” issue, accompanied by unusually loud noises emanating from their ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card.
This latest hiccup adds to a growing list of concerns surrounding NVIDIA’s flagship RTX Blackwell GPU. The device has already faced scrutiny due to problems like missing Render Output Units (ROPs), and now, possible quality control problems.
Upon further investigation by MutedMobile3977, it was discovered that the GPU had a damaged capacitor. Such physical damage is notably rare, particularly in a newly released model like the RTX 5090. Despite the noise, the graphics card continues to function without affecting performance, leaving the situation somewhat puzzling. Typically, if a capacitor were at fault, it would likely result in performance disruptions under load.
This revelation has understandably led to concern among current and prospective GeForce RTX 5090 owners. Should these issues trace back to a quality control flaw, more units are likely to experience similar problems over time.
In response to the problem, the affected user has already initiated a return merchandise authorization (RMA) process and is awaiting further information. As investigations continue, more insight into this issue is anticipated.
