NVIDIA DLSS 5 Gets Major Speed Boost and Lower VRAM Use Ahead of November Game Rollout

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Gets Faster, Uses Less VRAM, and Expands to Hogwarts Legacy

NVIDIA has announced a major update for DLSS 5, bringing a faster and more efficient AI model along with official support for more games. The latest version of the technology is designed to deliver better performance, lower memory usage, and improved image quality across supported titles.

The new DLSS 5 model arriving this month is significantly faster than the version first shown earlier in the year. NVIDIA says it has nearly doubled the execution speed of the DLSS 5 model since its launch with NBA 2K27 in September. That improvement comes from refining the training data and reducing the model’s overall size.

According to NVIDIA, the updated DLSS 5 model now uses 24% fewer parameters, bringing it down to 118 million parameters. A smaller model means it can run more efficiently on supported GeForce RTX hardware, while also reducing the amount of system resources required during gameplay.

One of the biggest benefits is lower VRAM usage. At 4K resolution, the new DLSS 5 model cuts memory usage by around 20%, which should help deliver smoother performance in demanding games, especially when high-resolution textures, ray tracing, or other advanced graphics features are enabled.

Performance gains will vary by game, but NVIDIA highlighted NBA 2K27 as one of the first major examples. With the newer DLSS 5 model, the game reportedly runs more than 30% faster in 4K scenarios, with frame rates increasing from around 65 FPS to roughly 90 FPS. That is a notable jump, particularly for players who want high frame rates at ultra-high resolutions.

DLSS 5 is also expanding beyond its initial launch title. NVIDIA confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will receive DLSS 5 support in an update scheduled for November 5. The update will add DLSS Neural Rendering to the game and upgrade its existing DLSS features to the latest versions.

Avalanche Software has reportedly used DLSS 5’s SDK controls to fine-tune the implementation, helping preserve the game’s original art direction and visual style. That is especially important for a title like Hogwarts Legacy, where atmosphere, lighting, environments, and character presentation play a major role in the overall experience.

Another game joining the DLSS 5 lineup is Where Winds Meet. The game already includes support for DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution, and NVIDIA says support for DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering will be added in the near future. This should further enhance the game’s open world, characters, and overall visual presentation.

NVIDIA also noted that community interest played a role in pushing official DLSS 5 support for Where Winds Meet. Players had been asking for the feature, and the developers were reportedly impressed by the visual improvements the technology could bring to the game.

Although DLSS 5 officially launched with NBA 2K27, modders and PC gaming enthusiasts have already experimented with bringing the technology to a wider range of games, apps, videos, and other media. Official support, however, gives developers more control over tuning the experience, ensuring better stability, image quality, and performance.

The latest October and November DLSS 5 updates suggest that NVIDIA is moving quickly to optimize the technology. By shrinking the AI model, improving execution speed, and reducing VRAM demands, the company is making DLSS 5 more practical for a broader range of games and hardware configurations.

NVIDIA has also indicated that more improvements are planned. The company continues to fine-tune DLSS 5 and is working toward bringing the technology to GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs, which could make the feature available to many more PC gamers in the future.

For now, the key takeaway is clear: DLSS 5 is becoming faster, lighter, and more widely supported. With Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet joining the lineup, NVIDIA’s latest AI-powered rendering technology is set to become a bigger part of the PC gaming experience heading into the next wave of updates.
