A leading innovator in the electric vehicle market has unveiled its latest offering, the NIO ET9 sedan, capturing attention with groundbreaking technology and luxurious features. Priced starting at just over $100,000, the ET9 stands at the pinnacle of premium electric sedans, boasting an unmatched 925V high-voltage drivetrain.
The ET9 is equipped with NIO’s SkyRide intelligent chassis, integrating Steer-by-Wire, Rear-Wheel Steering, and Full Active Suspension systems. This combination provides remarkable vehicle stability, evident from its ability to remain steady even with a tire blowout at 100 mph, a testament to its advanced Full-Link Ultra-Low Latency communication protocol enabling instantaneous suspension responses in less than 0.3 seconds.
This luxurious model accommodates four passengers comfortably, promising ample legroom and headroom with its impressive dimensions: a whopping length of 5,325 mm, a height of 1,621 mm, and a wheelbase stretching to 3,250 mm.
The true marvel of the ET9 lies in its cutting-edge powertrain and processing system. Highlighting its tech prowess, NIO introduces its own Shenji NX9031 self-driving chipset, crafted using state-of-the-art 5nm technology. Unlike Tesla’s reliance solely on camera input, the ET9’s autonomous driving system incorporates an array of sensors and cameras, complemented by not one but three LiDAR scanners—one at the top and two on the sides.
Breaking new ground in China, the ET9 is the first mass-produced vehicle equipped with steer-by-wire technology, enhancing maneuverability with rear-wheel steering. This feature offers a sharp 8.3-degree angle, more acute than Tesla’s Cybertruck, allowing the ET9 to execute sharp turns within a tight 10.9-meter diameter, perfect for those tricky parking spots or swift U-turns.
The sedan’s 100 kWh battery delivers enough energy to cover 650 kilometers (over 400 miles) per charge on the local CLTC test cycle, which tends to present more optimistic results than the stringent EPA benchmarks in the US.
NIO has opened preorders for the ET9, with a special initial release of 999 limited edition units starting at $94,500, including NIO’s novel Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). This service lets users swap their battery out for a full charge in just three minutes at any of the extensive number of swap stations, with a manageable battery rental fee of $150 per month. General availability for this prestigious sedan is scheduled for March 2025.
