Indie developer DDDistortion has just unveiled an exciting new trailer for their upcoming retro-styled horror shooter, Nightmare Operator, ahead of its showcase at the Tokyo Game Show. Let’s dive into what this spine-chilling game has to offer along with the fresh trailer insights.
Set in the year 2036, the game presents a grim future where humanity teeters on the brink of collapse. You step into the shoes of Misha, a Public Safety Operator working as a contractor for the Provisional Government. Her mission? To hunt down Youkai and protect the Quarantine City of Shin-Chiba. Within the eerie remains of Tokyo, Misha stumbles upon a dark secret that threatens to unravel what’s left of civilization.
Nightmare Operator is an action-packed horror shooter focused on hunting Youkai in the decaying ruins of Tokyo. The game combines the intense shooting mechanics of classic survival horror with the skill-based combat inspired by fighting games and spectacle fighters.
Key Features:
Clutch System: Misha’s Modular Gun is designed for rapid switching between different Weapon Modules via command inputs resembling those in fighting games. Staying calm and skilled is essential as the terrifying Youkai close in.
Legends Brought to Life: The Youkai Misha encounters are inspired by urban legends and Japanese folklore, but with a twist—they appear as the true monsters that these stories are based on.
Powerful Status Effects: Each Weapon Module carries elemental damage types, enabling Misha to inflict statuses like “freeze,” “stun,” or “bleed” on her enemies. Knowing when your next shot will cause a Youkai to reel or freeze solid is crucial for survival.
Build Your Own Combos: As Misha explores Tokyo’s ruins, she’ll discover and assemble an impressive array of Weapon Modules. These can be assigned to different Command Slots on her Modular Gun, letting players customize their combat strategy.
Lo-Rez Tokyo: The game features beautifully realized, low-poly representations of famous Tokyo districts and landmarks, inspired by the early days of 3D video games.
Kanpai! Between missions, Misha and her team gather at a local izakaya in the Quarantine City. These segments allow players to delve into the world’s archives, interact with city inhabitants, and enjoy detailed low-poly izakaya dishes.
Nightmare Operator is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, with no confirmed release date yet.
Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling title, which promises to blend eerie atmosphere, compelling lore, and strategic combat. Don’t miss the new trailer that gives a hint of the intense journey that awaits in the haunted corridors of Tokyo!
