Motherboard vendors are gearing up for the imminent arrival of AMD’s new Ryzen 9000X3D series CPUs, expected in just ten days. To prepare, AMD, in collaboration with motherboard manufacturers, has started rolling out BIOS updates featuring the updated AGESA 1.2.0.2A firmware. This new version builds upon the stable AGESA 1.2.0.2 release from September and focuses on enhancing performance specifically for the X3D series.
Excitingly, Gigabyte has made a bold introduction with the “X3D Turbo Mode.” Though initially spotlighted by Gigabyte, this feature is also integrated into ASUS’s latest BIOS update. The Turbo Mode reportedly disables AMD’s hyper-threading technology, known as SMT, while incorporating latency and CCD optimizations. Though precise details of these optimizations remain under wraps, they are aimed at maximizing performance.
For processors with dual CCD (Core Complex Die) configurations, the Turbo Mode might lock operations to a single CCD, mirroring capabilities seen in the previous 7000X3D series. Performance improvements have been noted, particularly on the 9700X, a single-CCD CPU without 3D V-Cache. Notably, there’s a reported 4.8% performance boost in Forza Horizon 5 with the new firmware.
