MSI Unveils the First Gaming Monitor Powered by Samsung’s 5th-Gen QD-OLED: The MPG 341CQR X36

MSI is preparing a major wave of gaming monitor upgrades for CES 2026, and one of the biggest highlights is the new MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36. Built around 5th Gen QD-OLED technology, this ultra-wide display targets the two areas gamers and creators keep asking for: better black levels in real-world lighting and clearer text for everyday use.

The MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 is a 34-inch ultra-wide monitor with a WQHD resolution of 3440×1440 and an ultra-fast refresh rate that reaches up to 360Hz. MSI is also including its latest OLED Care 3.0 features, aimed at helping the panel maintain performance and reduce common OLED concerns over long-term use.

What makes this monitor especially interesting is what the 5th Gen QD-OLED panel adds on top of the impressive core specs. MSI says there are two major upgrades, and both are designed to address issues people have brought up with earlier QD-OLED screens.

First, MSI is using a new DarkArmor Film that boosts perceived black depth by up to 40%. The goal is a richer, more immersive image with deeper blacks, especially in rooms with ambient light. MSI also claims the film delivers a 2.5x improvement in surface hardness, which should help with durability. Another practical benefit is that the new approach is meant to eliminate the purple tint some users notice on existing QD-OLED panels.

Second, the 5th Gen QD-OLED panel brings a new V-Stripe pixel structure that improves the clarity of text edges. That matters because ultra-wide OLED gaming monitors are increasingly used for more than games—think coding, document work, spreadsheets, and content creation. Sharper text and cleaner fine details can make a big difference for anyone who uses their display for hours at a time.

MSI is also pointing to a broader sub-pixel shift that should be especially welcome to PC users: an RGB Stripe-style arrangement that’s closer to what people are used to on traditional LCD monitors. In practical terms, this change is expected to reduce color fringing and make fine lines and high-contrast edges look cleaner. If it delivers as promised, it could remove one of the most common complaints people have had about OLED monitors when used for productivity tasks.

Beyond the MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36, MSI is teasing another flagship ultra-wide for CES 2026: the MEG X QD-OLED. MSI says it will also be a 34-inch QD-OLED monitor using the same 5th Gen QD-OLED panel tech, and it will introduce new, AI-driven features. The company hasn’t shared full specifications yet, but more details are expected during CES.

MSI is also refreshing its 32-inch QD-OLED range with the MPG 322UR X24 and MAG 321UP X24. These updated models are set to benefit from the same deeper blacks and improved brightness characteristics associated with the latest QD-OLED generation, giving buyers more options depending on whether they want ultra-wide immersion or a more traditional 16:9 high-end setup.

With 360Hz ultra-wide QD-OLED performance, deeper blacks, tougher screen protection, and clearer text, MSI’s CES 2026 monitor lineup is shaping up to be one of the more meaningful OLED updates in a while—especially for users who want one premium display for both competitive gaming and serious desktop work.
