MSI Claw with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H Faces Tough Competition from Asus ROG Ally with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme in Early Benchmarks

The MSI Claw, equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, has entered the competitive gaming handheld market and is facing its first performance evaluations. Despite not yet being formally reviewed due to the embargo, preliminary benchmarks have surfaced comparing the MSI Claw to the Asus ROG Ally, which hosts the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

These early gaming performance comparisons place the MSI Claw at a disadvantage when matched against the Asus ROG Ally. During the Shadow of Tomb Raider test at varying Thermal Design Power (TDP) levels of 15W, 20W, and 25W, the MSI Claw lags behind the Asus offering. This discrepancy in performance extends to the maximum TDP settings, where the Claw operates at 40W and the ROG Ally at 30W, with the Claw reaching 49 frames per second (FPS) and the ROG Ally achieving 53 FPS.

Differences in performance are evident across various game titles. In Cyberpunk 2077, the Claw’s Intel processor managed to reach 44.8 FPS while the ROG Ally surged to 59.8 FPS. Similarly, in Red Dead Redemption 2, the MSI Claw scored an average of 49.2 FPS in comparison to the ROG Ally’s 60.2 FPS.

The gaming benchmarks indicate that the Asus ROG Ally with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme possesses an overall performance edge in the early testing stage. A chart detailing these results in a range of games has been released to provide further insights into the gaming capabilities of these handheld devices.

It’s important to highlight that MSI’s Claw with the Intel Meteor Lake CPU has not reached its full potential, as it is still on the brink of its official launch slated for April 1. With the pre-orders just beginning, future software updates, including optimized drivers, could potentially improve its performance metrics.

Consequently, any current performance comparisons may not fully represent the final capabilities of the MSI Claw. Nonetheless, these early benchmarks give a glimpse into what consumers can expect from these two powerhouse gaming handhelds as they compete in the evolving tech landscape. Sharing insights into the performance of these devices helps prospective users make informed decisions.
