MSI Afterburner RTX 5080 triple fan control

MSI Afterburner Introduces Separate Fan Control for GeForce RTX 50 GPUs Ahead of Market Debut

Get ready for an exciting new update for MSI Afterburner, the renowned GPU overclocking and monitoring software. The upcoming update is set to provide enhanced control features specifically for the soon-to-be-released GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. Most notably, this includes independent fan control, which promises to give users a heightened level of customization.

The update, confirmed by the software’s creator Alexy Nicolaychuk on a popular tech forum, is slated for release shortly before the retail launch of the RTX 5080, which is projected to occur on January 21st. This clue suggests that the GeForce RTX 5080 will be the pioneering model from the Blackwell GPU family, making its debut even before the official unveiling on January 6th.

One of the standout features of this Afterburner update is the ability to control individual fans on triple-fan configurations—a first for any RTX 50 series GPU. Users can expect more efficient cooling and tailored noise management as they set unique speeds and curves for each fan. There will even be a specialized option for asynchronous fan speed control for the third fan, offering unprecedented tuning capability.

It remains uncertain if this fan control feature will trickle down to other series, such as the RTX 40, that also sport three fans. At present, MSI does provide a ‘Fan Sync’ option for dual-fan GPUs, but this new update heralds a leap forward in fan control technology.

Leading the charge is the upcoming MSI GeForce RTX 5080 GAMING TRIO, the only known triple-fan GPU from the RTX 5080 lineup to surface thus far. We anticipate various manufacturers under NVIDIA’s umbrella will follow suit, offering diverse triple-fan options.

As anticipation builds toward the RTX 5080’s official launch, excitement also swells around its rumored specifications—boasting 10,752 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and a power draw of 360W. We are mere days away from these developments, so stay tuned for further revelations as they unfold.
