Montabi Brings Its Creature-Collecting Card Battles to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Montabi Brings Creature-Collecting Roguelike Deckbuilding to Switch and Switch 2 on August 6

Akupara Games and developer Mankibo have announced that Montabi, a creature-collecting roguelike deckbuilder, is officially coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The game will launch on August 6 alongside its previously confirmed releases for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Blending monster-taming, tactical combat, and deckbuilding strategy, Montabi puts players on a mission to save a city under threat. Instead of relying on a fixed party or predictable battles, players will tame different Montabi creatures, build evolving decks, and fight across a strategic 3×3 battle grid where positioning and planning can make all the difference.

At the heart of Montabi is its creature-collecting system. Each Montabi comes with its own abilities, skills, and potential team synergies, allowing players to experiment with different combinations from run to run. As players progress, they can gather equipment, charms, and new cards to shape their strategy and push deeper into the game’s challenging streets.

Montabi also emphasizes growth and evolution. Training your Montabi makes them stronger, unlocks new moves, and eventually allows them to evolve into more powerful forms. These evolutions expand your deck with fresh card abilities, giving players more tactical tools and making every run feel different.

Combat takes place on a compact 3×3 grid, where every move matters. Players must think carefully about positioning, timing, and how each Montabi’s skills can be used to outsmart enemies. The game encourages strategic planning rather than simple brute force, though sometimes getting aggressive may be the right call.

Another key part of the experience is choosing your trainer. Different trainers offer unique playstyles, giving players even more ways to approach battles. Some may focus on positioning, others may support the team with buffs, while others may prefer a more direct combat approach. However, protecting the trainer is crucial. If the trainer falls, the run ends.

Montabi will feature 22 starter creatures, each tied to its own evolutionary line and deck style. With more than 500 cards available, players can expect a wide range of builds, strategies, and replayability. The roguelike structure means no two runs should play out exactly the same, encouraging players to keep experimenting with new Montabi teams and card combinations.

For fans of monster-taming games, deckbuilders, and tactical roguelikes, Montabi is shaping up to be an interesting mix of familiar ideas with a fresh strategic twist. Its combination of collectible creatures, evolving decks, grid-based combat, and multiple trainer styles could make it a strong choice for players looking for a replayable strategy game on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, and Xbox platforms.

Montabi launches on August 6 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
