Microsoft Surface Laptop 8 13.8 Launches Globally With Snapdragon X2 Elite, 120Hz Display, and Up to 20 Hours of Battery Life
Microsoft has introduced its latest 13.8-inch Surface Laptop worldwide, bringing a refreshed Windows laptop experience built around Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 platform. The new Surface Laptop 8 13.8 focuses on portability, long battery life, premium design, and stronger AI-ready performance, making it a compelling option for students, professionals, and everyday users looking for a sleek productivity machine.
One of the biggest highlights is the processor choice. Buyers can configure the laptop with either the Snapdragon X2 Plus, which features a 10-core design, or the more powerful Snapdragon X2 Elite with 12 cores. These chips are designed to deliver efficient performance while extending battery life, which has become a major selling point for modern thin-and-light laptops.
The Surface Laptop 8 13.8 also keeps Microsoft’s PixelSense Flow display, offering a 2,304 x 1,536 resolution with a sharp 201 PPI pixel density. The screen supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, making scrolling, animations, and general navigation feel more fluid. Peak brightness reaches 600 nits, which should help improve visibility in brighter environments. Despite earlier speculation about an OLED model, this version uses an IPS panel.
Memory options are generous for a compact laptop. Microsoft is offering configurations with 16GB, 24GB, 32GB, or 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM. This gives buyers flexibility depending on their workload, whether they need a reliable device for browsing and office apps or a more capable system for multitasking, creative work, and AI-assisted features. However, the 64GB RAM option is only available with the Black color finish.
Storage remains practical thanks to support for a removable SSD, a useful feature for users who value serviceability and upgrade potential. Many ultraportable laptops now use soldered storage, so Microsoft’s decision to continue offering a replaceable SSD may appeal to business users and long-term owners.
The laptop’s design stays slim and premium. It measures 301 x 220 x 17.5 mm and weighs 1.36 kg, making it light enough for daily commuting, travel, and classroom use. Microsoft is offering the device in four finishes: Black, Dune, Jade, and Platinum. The new Jade colorway gives the lineup a fresh look while keeping the minimalist Surface design language intact.
Battery life is another major selling point. Microsoft claims the Surface Laptop 8 13.8 can last up to 20 hours on a single charge. If real-world performance comes close to that figure, it could be an excellent choice for users who want all-day productivity without constantly reaching for a charger.
Pricing starts at $1,599 for the Snapdragon X2 Plus model. Choosing the Snapdragon X2 Elite version adds $100 to the starting price. With its premium build, high-refresh-rate display, long battery life, and next-generation Snapdragon hardware, the Surface Laptop 8 13.8 is positioned as a strong competitor in the growing market for efficient Windows laptops.
Microsoft has also introduced a larger 15-inch version of the Surface Laptop 8, giving users another option if they prefer a bigger display for multitasking, media, or productivity work.
