Micron Seals Strategic Purchase of PSMC’s Tongluo P5 Taiwan Fab Site

Micron Technology has officially completed its acquisition of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation’s P5 fabrication site in Tongluo, located in Miaoli County, Taiwan. With the deal now finalized, Micron says it has assumed full ownership of the facility, moving ahead with plans first revealed on January 17, 2026.

The newly acquired Tongluo P5 site strengthens Micron’s manufacturing footprint in Taiwan, a region that plays a central role in the global semiconductor supply chain. By taking control of an established fab location, Micron positions itself to expand production capacity and increase operational flexibility—two advantages that matter more than ever as demand for memory and advanced chips continues to rise across industries.

While Micron has not detailed every next step in the brief announcement, completing the transaction is a key milestone. It signals that Micron is moving from planning to execution, with the Tongluo facility expected to become part of the company’s broader strategy to support long-term growth, supply stability, and technology scaling.

For Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem, the acquisition is another sign of continued investment and consolidation as major chipmakers look to secure critical manufacturing assets. For Micron, it’s a strategic move that could help the company respond faster to market needs and strengthen its competitive position in the memory sector.
