Meta Verified and Personalized Messaging: WhatsApp’s New Offerings for Indian Small Businesses

WhatsApp is revolutionizing the way small businesses in India operate by introducing a Meta Verified badge and the capability to send tailored messages to customers. This move aims to tap into the vast potential of India’s market, where over 65 million small and medium-sized businesses thrive, yet only about 5 million are currently engaged in online sales.

WhatsApp, a predominant messaging platform in India, has become the go-to for small businesses looking to connect with their customer base. Meta is strategically leveraging this trend to promote its WhatsApp Business app, making it an indispensable tool for businesses in the region.

The new Meta Verified subscription for WhatsApp Business users comes with a host of valuable features. Subscribed businesses can create custom WhatsApp pages that are easily discoverable online, enjoy multi-device support, and manage multiple employee accounts seamlessly. These enhancements are available starting at around $8 (approximately ₹639) per month for Indian users, making it an accessible upgrade for many small businesses.

In addition to the Meta Verified perks, WhatsApp Business users can now send personalized messages — such as appointment reminders, birthday greetings, or sales updates — to their customers for less than a rupee per message. This personalized communication can include customers’ names and engaging call-to-action buttons, making interactions more meaningful and effective.

This development follows Meta’s launch of its verification program for business accounts on Instagram and Facebook last September, showcasing the company’s commitment to supporting businesses across its platforms.

Furthermore, WhatsApp is initiating “WhatsApp Business Yatra,” a tour aimed at visiting tier-2 and tier-3 cities across India to promote the service and provide hands-on training to small businesses. This initiative focuses on helping businesses set up their WhatsApp Business accounts, create product catalogs, and run ads that link directly to WhatsApp.

As part of this comprehensive support, a resource center will be established on WhatsApp’s website, offering quick-access tutorials and guides to help businesses maximize the app’s potential.

This robust set of new features underscores WhatsApp’s commitment to empowering small businesses in India, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to thrive in the digital age.
