Mercedes GLC Electric debuts at IAA Mobility 2025: faster charging, more space, and a bold new look
Mercedes is set to unveil the GLC Electric at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, calling the show the next step in its largest product offensive to date. On display in hall B3, this all-electric SUV reimagines one of the brand’s best-selling models with a fresh design, a dedicated EV platform, and cutting-edge charging tech.
Built on the new MB.EA architecture rather than a converted gas platform, the GLC Electric introduces what Mercedes describes as a new face of the brand. The styling aims for an iconic, sleek presence and previews a design language that will be consistent across future models. Beyond the aesthetics, the switch to a dedicated EV platform unlocks smarter packaging, improved efficiency, and a more spacious interior.
The tech story is headlined by an 800‑volt electrical system with silicon carbide inverters, enabling lightning-fast DC charging up to 320 kW. Stop for ten minutes and you can add roughly 160 miles of range—just enough time for a quick coffee before getting back on the road.
Growth in size brings meaningful everyday benefits. A wheelbase stretch of about 3.1 inches delivers more room for passengers and a larger battery, now 94.5 kWh. Cargo capacity checks in at 20.1 cubic feet, expanding to 61.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. There’s even a 4.5-cubic-foot frunk for smaller items. For ride quality and maneuverability, buyers can opt for Airmatic air suspension—borrowed from the S-Class—and rear-axle steering up to 4.5 degrees as part of the Agility & Comfort package.
Performance spans from efficient to exhilarating. The rear-wheel-drive model is rated at 340 hp, while 4MATIC all-wheel drive delivers 489 hp. An AMG variant with more than 550 hp is in the pipeline for drivers seeking maximum punch. Practicality remains a priority: the GLC Electric can tow up to 5,291 pounds and offers trailer stabilization and maneuvering assistance to make hauling easier and safer.
As one of the brand’s top sellers, the GLC is central to Mercedes’ strategy in the Core Luxury segment. The electric version is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating EV adoption for the company starting in 2026, combining design, performance, and everyday usability in a single package.
