Mega Lucario ex Powers Up Pokémon TCG Pocket in the New Pulsing Aura Expansion

Pokémon TCG Pocket just delivered its biggest update since the game launched, and it’s a major one for anyone building competitive decks or chasing rare cards. The new Pulsing Aura expansion is now live on iOS and Android, adding 234 fresh cards to the digital Pokémon Trading Card Game experience and launching a packed schedule of in-game events that runs through late May.

Since arriving in October 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket has positioned itself as a faster, more streamlined take on the classic card game: open booster packs, grow your collection, build decks, and battle other players in real time. That formula has clearly connected with players, with total spending topping $1.6 billion since launch—making it one of the most successful debuts for a Pokémon mobile game.

Pulsing Aura focuses on Mega Evolutions, the fan-favorite mechanic that powers up Pokémon temporarily during battle. Headlining the set are Mega Lucario ex and Mega Sceptile ex, two of the most requested additions since the game’s release. In total, the expansion introduces 10 new ex cards, plus two Immersive Rares featuring Sobble and Mega Lucario ex, and two Crown Rares featuring Bombirdier and Celebi.

There’s also a big gameplay twist designed to keep Mega Evolutions from becoming unstoppable. A new rule means knocking out a Mega Evolution card gives the opponent 3 points, which is an instant win condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket. That change forces smarter deckbuilding and more careful play, because running Mega Evolutions now comes with real risk as well as huge upside.

Two new support cards are already shaping how the meta could evolve. Korrina is a Supporter card that boosts the damage of all your Pokémon’s attacks by 30 when targeting the opponent’s Active ex Pokémon for that turn. Arena of Antiquity is a Stadium card that adds 20 damage to attacks used by any Pokémon in play against the opponent’s Active ex Pokémon—and it stays active once in play. When these effects stack, Mega Lucario ex can reach 190 damage, putting it among the hardest hitters currently available.

Collectors also get a new long-term goal with the introduction of gold frame cards. If you collect 10 copies of the same card, you unlock a gold border treatment for it, and the feature applies retroactively to cards you already own—meaning long-time players may see instant upgrades if their collections already meet the requirement.

Alongside the new set, a full lineup of May events is rolling out with rewards aimed at both competitive players and collectors. The 1.5 anniversary Special Event runs through early May, letting players take on solo battles to earn promo cards and complete missions to unlock Mega Zygarde ex, a Legendary card that can’t be pulled from standard packs.

Next, the Pulsing Aura Emblem Event runs until May 13, offering profile emblems and useful items tied to ranked play. Community Week follows from May 9 to May 16, with trading-focused missions that encourage players to exchange cards and earn Trade Hourglasses plus special accessories.

Later in the month, the Mega Heracross ex Drop Event runs from May 12 to May 29 and is described as the only way to obtain B Series Volume 8 promo packs. Ranked Season 13 runs May 13 through May 27 for players aiming to climb the ladder. And there’s more content on the way: a B3a-themed mini-expansion is confirmed for May 28, promising 100+ additional cards added to the overall pool.

With Pulsing Aura, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn’t just adding more cards—it’s introducing new strategies, higher-risk deck decisions, and plenty of reasons to log in throughout May, whether you’re chasing Mega Evolution power plays, hunting rare finishes, or grinding event rewards.
