Maxell Japan has just introduced the MXCP-P100S, a portable cassette player designed for those who love the charm of retro music devices. This new player merges nostalgic design with cutting-edge technology, offering features like Bluetooth 5.4 support, a rechargeable battery, and built-in speakers, making it perfect for music lovers who want to enjoy their tunes anywhere without the need for headphones.
The MXCP-P100S caters to the growing demand for analog music formats, reminiscent of the iconic Sony Walkman from 1979. While cassettes saw a decline after CDs took over in the 1980s, they’re now experiencing a resurgence alongside vinyl records.
This sleek player is compatible with Normal Type-I tapes up to 90 minutes long. Maxell has included a brass flywheel to stabilize sound quality during playback. You can listen through wired headphones, wireless Bluetooth devices, or the built-in 500 mW speaker, offering playback times of 9, 7, and 6.5 hours respectively. The device recharges in just two hours using a USB Type-C power source.
Compact and lightweight, the player measures 4.8 x 3.6 x 1.8 inches and weighs a mere 8.3 ounces. It even includes a handy clip on the back for easy portability.
While the price hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s expected to be around $100. Mark your calendars for August 20, 2025, when it will be available in stylish black and white options on Maxell’s website. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect cassette to complement your new gadget, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack could be a fun choice!
