Fiio CP11 Cassette Player Preview: Retro Tape Playback Meets Bluetooth Audio
Fiio is bringing a fresh wave of nostalgia to portable audio with two new cassette players currently in development. The upcoming models, named Fiio CP11 and Fiio CP15, are designed for listeners who still enjoy the warm, analog charm of cassette tapes but want a few modern conveniences built in.
The more affordable Fiio CP11 is expected to arrive first, and early details suggest it could become an appealing option for retro music fans. While cassette players are no longer mainstream, there is still a dedicated audience that values physical media, tape collections, and the unique listening experience that cassettes provide. Fiio appears to be targeting that niche with a device that blends classic tape playback with updated features.
One of the biggest highlights of the Fiio CP11 is Bluetooth support. This means users should be able to connect wireless headphones or earbuds, making the cassette player more practical for modern everyday use. For anyone who loves the idea of listening to tapes without being tied to wired headphones, this could be a major selling point.
Fiio says the CP11 will include an ultra-thin mechanism, a high-quality magnetic head, a brushless motor, a new motor servo drive, and a redesigned circuit system. These upgrades suggest the company is paying close attention to playback stability, sound quality, and overall reliability. Since cassette players rely heavily on precise mechanical movement, these internal improvements could help the CP11 stand out from basic retro-style tape players.
The design is also shaping up to be a key part of its appeal. Early renders show the Fiio CP11 in three colorful finishes: Cream, Teal, and Red. Each version features matching controls, giving the device a playful yet polished appearance. The record button appears in a red or orange tone, while the Bluetooth button is blue, making the wireless feature easy to identify at a glance.
The CP11 also appears to include an LED indicator next to the Bluetooth button. On the side of the player, there seems to be a charging port, two audio ports, a switch, and an additional button. One of the audio ports may be intended for microphone input, although Fiio has not yet confirmed the full purpose of every control and connector.
A rear door is visible on the cassette player, and the back of the unit includes text indicating support for 10W charging. That detail points to a rechargeable design, which would make the CP11 more convenient than traditional cassette players that depend on disposable batteries.
Fiio originally planned to release only the higher-end CP15, but development challenges led the company to introduce the CP11 as a lower-tier model. The CP11 is now expected to launch toward the end of the year, though Fiio has made it clear that mass production will only begin once the product meets its quality standards. That means the release date could still shift if more refinement is needed.
The Fiio CP15 remains in development and is expected to arrive later. If everything goes according to plan, it could launch roughly six months after the CP11, placing its release in the first quarter of 2027.
With the CP11, Fiio seems to be aiming at a rare combination: a portable cassette player that feels nostalgic but does not ignore modern listening habits. Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging, colorful styling, and upgraded internal components could make it a compelling choice for cassette collectors, retro audio fans, and anyone curious about the return of analog music devices.
