Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Kicks Off This Month

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta brings 72 hours of Marvel fighting action to PS5 and PC

Sony and Arc System Works are giving players a major early look at Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls with a 72-hour open beta ahead of the game’s full launch on August 6. The upcoming Marvel fighting game blends fast-paced 4v4 team battles, comic-inspired visuals, and a roster packed with heroes and villains from across the Marvel universe.

The Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls open beta begins on July 24 at 12:00am PT, 8:00am BST, and 4:00pm JST. It ends on July 26 at 11:59pm PT, or July 27 at 7:59am BST and 3:59pm JST.

Players will be able to join the beta on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. No registration is needed. Once the beta is available, players can download it directly from their platform’s store and jump into the action. Pre-downloads will open two hours before the servers go live, giving fans a chance to get ready before the first matches begin.

A PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to take part. However, an internet connection and a PlayStation account are required for access on both PS5 and PC.

The open beta will feature 15 playable characters from the game’s 20-character launch roster. One of the biggest highlights is Blade, who will be playable for the first time during this test.

Confirmed playable fighters include Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker, and Blade. The lineup gives players a strong mix of Avengers, X-Men, Guardians, and other Marvel favorites, making it a great opportunity to explore different team combinations and fighting styles.

Battles will take place across six Marvel-inspired stages: Marvel’s New York during the day, Marvel’s New York at night, Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, and Wakanda. Each arena is designed to capture the atmosphere of some of Marvel’s most recognizable locations while serving as a flashy backdrop for high-energy tag-team combat.

The open beta will offer more than standard online matches. Players can try Casual Match to quickly find opponents at a similar skill level, or enter Ranked Match to test their abilities and climb the competitive ladder. For those who want to fight offline, Versus Mode will allow local battles against friends on the same system or practice matches against the CPU.

The beta will also include access to the Open Lobby, a social hub where players can relax between matches. The lobby features miniature versions of iconic stages and lets players choose from 16 avatars, each with four color options. Players can interact through free chat, preset messages, stamps, and emotes, then walk up to arcade cabinets to challenge others to a fight.

New players will be able to ease into the game through Start Up Battle, an interactive tutorial that explains the basics of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. This mode introduces the core mechanics of 4v4 combat, team-based systems, and essential controls before sending players into a trial match.

Training Mode will also be available for anyone who wants to practice combos, study character mechanics, or fine-tune strategies. Players can experiment with the roster, adjust training scenarios, and customize dummy settings to improve their skills before heading into real matches.

For the first time, the open beta will also include an early preview of Episode Mode. Players can experience the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline, where Spider-Man begins gathering his team to face a mysterious threat approaching Earth. This mode combines illustrated motion-comic storytelling with cinematic battles, giving fans a taste of the game’s narrative presentation.

The open beta will also showcase the localization options planned for the full release. Voice-over and text support will be available in US English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese with Mandarin voice-over. Text-only support will include UK English, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, and Traditional Chinese.

Players who joined previous closed beta tests should notice several improvements. Based on community feedback, the development team has refined gameplay, adjusted mechanics, and made changes across the experience to make Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls more exciting, balanced, and accessible.

With a wide character selection, multiple modes, online and local play, training tools, story content, and a full three-day testing window, the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls open beta looks like a strong preview of what the full game will offer when it launches on August 6.
