### AMD Radeon 890M Promises to Outperform Intel Lunar Lake Arc 140V iGPU
The GPD Pocket 4 is set to become the premier handheld PC packed with an AMD Strix Point processor. GPD, traditionally not catering solely to gamers, made an intriguing assertion regarding the performance capabilities of its Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chip within this compact device. The key point of interest is the in-built Radeon 890M iGPU, which, according to the manufacturer, might outdo an unreleased Intel Lunar Lake processor’s integrated GPU.
In this battle of integrated graphics, GPD shared comparative data stating that the Radeon 890M, when operating at 45W TDP, scored 3,647 points in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark. This is in contrast to the 3,438 points that the Intel Arc 140V iGPU achieved. This preliminary data suggests that the AMD Radeon 890M holds an approximate 6% lead over the Arc 140V, meaning the RDNA 3.5 iGPU could be the new standard to beat.
While this comparison unquestionably casts the next-gen Radeon in a flattering light, it also hints that the upcoming Lunar Lake iGPU will still present a notable improvement over its predecessor, the Radeon 780M.
Diving a bit deeper into the performance metrics, GPD has also evaluated the Radeon 890M in another Strix Point offering, the GPD DUO laptop. Interestingly, the Pocket 4 is a more conservative device, seemingly operating at a 28W TDP.
A twist in the performance narrative emerges when comparing this data to a leak provided by Jaykihn, which outlined that the Arc 140V iGPU hit 3,438 points at a low power setting of 17W. When the power was ramped up to 30W TDP, Jaykihn reported a score of 4,151 points. This raises questions about the testing parameters and the accuracy of the numbers put forth by GPD.
The tentative nature of this performance comparison beckons consumers to maintain a healthy skepticism, as it is based on an array of potentially fluctuating factors. Nevertheless, with Intel’s next-gen lineup anticipated to make its debut on September 3, we expect that very soon a clearer understanding of the iGPU landscape will be unveiled.
