Mangmi Air Y Gameplay Video Shows Solid Retro Emulation on a Compact Vertical Handheld
Mangmi has offered a fresh look at its upcoming Air Y handheld, and the new gameplay footage suggests that this compact vertical gaming device could be a strong option for fans of classic console emulation.
The Mangmi Air Y is part of the company’s new Air Y series and is positioned as the more affordable, less powerful model compared to the Air Y Pro. Even so, the latest video shows that the device can handle several popular retro games across platforms such as the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation One, and SEGA Dreamcast.
The handheld features a 4.2-inch IPS display, giving it a pocket-friendly form factor while still offering enough screen space for retro gaming. Under the hood, the Air Y is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. It also comes with a single thumbstick, while the higher-end Air Y Pro includes dual thumbsticks.
Despite those modest specifications, the gameplay demonstration shows promising emulation performance. In the video, the Mangmi Air Y runs God of War: Ghost of Sparta for PSP, a title known for being more demanding than many other games on the platform. The handheld is also shown playing Tomb Raider and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the original PlayStation library without obvious trouble.
The video also includes Dreamcast gameplay, with Crazy Taxi making an appearance. Dreamcast emulation can be challenging for budget handhelds, so seeing the Air Y run the classic SEGA arcade racer is a notable highlight for anyone interested in affordable retro gaming devices.
Interestingly, the demonstration focuses entirely on retro game emulation. It does not show Android gaming or game streaming from a PC or cloud-based service. That leaves some questions about how flexible the Air Y will be beyond emulation, especially since similar Mangmi devices with comparable hardware support those features.
Mangmi has not yet confirmed the official release date or retail price for the Air Y. However, given its lower-end hardware compared to other models in the lineup, it is expected to arrive at a budget-friendly price. The Air X, which uses the same Snapdragon 662 chipset but includes 4GB of RAM, is priced around $99.99 through the manufacturer, while marketplace pricing can be higher.
If Mangmi keeps the Air Y competitively priced, it could appeal to retro gaming fans looking for a vertical handheld that can play PSP, PS1, and Dreamcast classics without spending much. Its compact design, familiar layout, and early emulation results make it one to watch in the growing market for affordable Android-based retro handhelds.
