MagicX is gearing up for a new retro gaming handheld designed with Nintendo DS and 3DS fans in mind. The device, currently referred to as the Two DS 46, is still in the concept stage, and even its name isn’t final. Early community feedback is shaping the direction, with MagicX sharing two design options in its Discord and running a poll to see which look gamers prefer. So far, neither design has a clear lead.
The company is exploring two distinct styles: one that resembles an upgraded version of its own Zero 40, and another that leans into a familiar, slate-like 2DS-inspired aesthetic. While the final hardware details haven’t been disclosed, MagicX has set an ambitious performance target—around 90% of Nintendo 3DS games playable at 2x resolution or higher. If achieved, that would mean noticeably sharper visuals than on original hardware and a smoother experience for most of the library.
A 4.58-inch display is part of the plan, with emulation support tailored to mimic the dual-screen layout: a virtual 3.42-inch top screen and a 2.93-inch bottom screen. That setup should make DS and 3DS titles feel natural without awkward scaling.
MagicX is positioning the Two DS 46 as a more capable option than the forthcoming Anbernic RG DS, which appears to focus on Nintendo DS titles rather than offering full 3DS support. Pricing, release date, and the rest of the specifications remain under wraps for now.
If MagicX hits these targets, the Two DS 46 could become one of the most compelling handhelds for DS and 3DS emulation—especially for players who want higher-resolution output and a form factor tuned to dual-screen gaming. Keep an eye out for updates as the community poll wraps up and the design, specs, and launch plans become clearer.
